i have thought for ages the jump between LHW and CW is too much..going from 175 to 200 lb is too much we could do with a 185? seems odd we have 160 -168-175 then 200
Cleverly vs Roy Jones Jr for the undisputed super light-heavyweight crown! Millenium stadium make it happen
The problem has got worse since heavyweights started weighing in at 17 st+. Go back to the original cruiserweight limit of 190lb and have an extra super-heavyweight division.
Far too dangerous as a 'stand alone policy'. We need three weigh-ins for title fights. One a week before when a fighter must weigh not over 3% of the contracted weight; the day before when a fighter must make weight; then eight hours before the fight, when the fighter cannot be more than 2% over the contracted weight.
I've been thinking this for a while, but rather than a middle ground between LH and cruiser, I'd like to see a 200-224 division (under 16 stone). This would be a lot closer to the heavyweight division of old. As the average weight of a heavyweight fighter has gone up in recent years, the entertainment value seems to have gone down. I think a heavyweight limit, with the big guys pushed into a super heavy class, would rekindle a once-great division.
One week before and on the day would be fine there's nothing wrong with fighters weighing in on the day of the fight and being within the weight limit . A return to 15 rounds for world title fights would also be good. Fighters , trainers and managers are all capable of making decisions to see the fighters make weight properly
Agred, although I'd have 190-224. It's incredible to think that boxers used to move between heavy and light-heavy.
ive said that kinda thing before...tyson sized guys have almost no chance anymore against these gigantic men
Agreed what chance has a 6ft2 16stone guy got theses days ,too big for cruiser too small for a heavywieght
Holyfield seemed to do just fine. It has been shown the brothers can lose, ditto Lewis and indeed Bowe. The weights were changed not so long back, there is little evidence to back further change.
