we need characters!

I was watching a few of Tysons earlier fights recently and was amazed at his postfight interviews. He was smart,well spoken and gracious. Complete contrast to his later persona.

 

Boxing is full of great characters. What we lack is promoters with enough imagination and creativity to build them up.

 

Sorry dude, Margarito looks like nothing in person. A regular guy who's super skinny. Most people that I know would show him zero respect and get their ass kicked for not knowing any better. :tired

I think we need more guys that are willing to take more risks. That's the character that we need in fighters today.

 

I agree, but then why are you such a big fan of Wlad then? The man takes absolutely no chances anymore in fights, it's like even he knows his chin terrible, and doesnt want to open up and take the chance of getting it exposed again.

 

I think he meant fighters not fighting the best and instead take paths of least resistance. Wlad is not guilty of that, but yeah he's been very boring lately and afraid of exchanging, definitely not as exciting as he used to be but at the same time if he opens up more he'd get ktfo.

 

I just reread his post, I think your right. I just thought he meant that he would like to see more fighters taking chances in the ring, instead of fighting boring, uneventful fights.

Yes, Wlad would get laid out against the first decent puncher he would try to exchange with.

Wlad doesn't take "stupid" chances against southpaws or those who can kill you with a left hook like Lamon. That's all. Southpaws are tough for some. What do you want Wlad to do? Let his chin get hit on purpose? The other fighters need to find a way to do that on their own. If they are not good enough to hit Wlad's chin, then be prepared to get KO'd by Wlad. And that is what Wlad does, and that is why I'm a fan.

I think Wlad and Steward are guilty of making it look real easy. And it is getting real easy for them. He kind of reminds me of Ali in his good days. People complained how Ali would run circles around his opponents,not getting hit, and then KOing them, and he would also tie up his opponents well when they had Ali in target. Did this everytime and was tough to beat, and Ali's opponents and their fans hated it. It seemed unfair. But, Frazier was man enough to get the job done that no one else could.

Give Wlad some credit. Know why he is good. It's simple. Uses his size, jab, footwork (for his size), smarts, and tying up to disable his opponent's offense. On offense, Wlad uses his jab so well. So, if the opponent is thinking right hand, Wlad then KO's them with his left hook, and if they are worried about the Left hook, then he gets them with his big right. Works every time. Love Ko's, that's why I like him.

 

Fair enough, I do appreciate Wlad's skills, especially his jab, which I said was every bit as good as Lennox's. I have nothing against Wlad's skills, it's the panic attacks, the excessive clinching, and the weak chin that has been exposed by journeymen in the past, that gets me. I have real hard time supporting someone that shits the bed when the going gets tough, something a prime Ali never did, if anything he was better when the pressure was on.

While your right, Wlad does makes fights look easy, but whose been fighting while champ? Thompson, Iggy, Brock, Brewster, and Austin, half of these guys would qualify for the bum of the month club. If there were fighters like Norten, Frazier, Foreman, Liston, Quarry, Shavers, Lyle, etc... I think Wlad would have alot more L's on his record, dont you?
