Hagler gets 'lacyed'.:yep Anyway, you are dead correct that several LHW's would beat Roy Jones. But there isn't a SMW that could have beaten the best of Jones, best chance would have been my guys Calzaghe due to his quick and available left hook(something Jones is open to a bit). McCllelan, Benn and Eubank just didn't have the skill level to compete with Jones. 160 guys are in trouble vs. Jones. 168 is wiped clean. 175 is nearly wiped clean with Foster, Spinks and Moorer KOing Roy, everyone else gets obliterated.
Light Heavy I think that he could get beat by a few guys. Michael Moorer for example as a light heavyweight would probably KO jones even a prime jones.
Lots of guys would have beat Jones.Except for the Hopkins and Toney fights , Jones was the consummate cherry picker.Billy Conn would have befuddled Jones.Archie Moore would have sent his peanut head into orbit.Bob Foster would have seriously hurt Junior.Great fighters and careers are determined by meeting one big challenge after another. Two big wins do not a great career make.
I am not overdoing it, whether or not he fought hand picked opponents, a guy like Hagler, who was always troubled by speed/quick hands/movement combination and especially when mixed with angles is going to get beaten to a pulp by a superior specimen like Jones. Nothing Hagler had in his arsenal, ATG or not, could trouble Roy. I personally just don't put ATG's on a pedastool, non-ATG's who were elite can very likely embarass certain ATG's they have advantages over. People picking Billy Conn over Jones are about as ridiculous as it gets, he's an era down from the peak of Moore and Charles, who are also too primitive to compete with the modern elite's.
La Motta gets destroyed in 1, Hagler is TEN levels above Jake La Motta. And on the contrary Sweet Pea, I used to give Hagler a chance against Jones, until I started studying Marvin Hagler, then I changed my opinion when I found that he's open to just about everything in a peak Jones' arsenal and really wouldn't have much to work off of in terms of this 'stylistic' match when you combine the speed/angles/movement/timing combination in Jones. It's a simple stylistic/intangible study. Just because Hagler is an ATG and a MODERN ATG at that, which means he's right there with Hopkins and the rest in terms of ability, doesn't mean my analysis is off target here. Jones had everything to embarass Hagler with, a complete Hagler-murdering stylistic/intangible/arsenal set up. It's a mismatch.
La Motta, the same guy that beat the greatest fighter of all time? That La Motta? The same La Motta that was only stopped once in his career? That La Motta? Be realistic. La Motta would be on Roy like flies on ****.
At MW, he beats anyone except some ATGs. At SWM, I belief Jones beats anyone. At LHW, a lot of fighters could've beat him.
I didn't say he'd win, but destroyed in 1 round? And I'm not sure if LaMotta's style would necessarily be wrong for Jones, I just don't think that LaMotta had the athleticism to compete with him. Jones who's fallback is a boxer regardless of his unorthadox style and unreal athletic ability would be troubled by a pressure fighter that can get inside and STAY inside. Unfortunately, I think that might be Hagler more than it is LaMotta, but then again, LaMotta was just as tough and just as relentless as Hagler. I just don't think he has the ability. *LaMotta was robbed once.
