It’s not really a knock on this era. Tough dudes who can give anyone a tough fight or cause an upset have always been around. No matter the age, Chisora is bull strong, very durable, has ko power in both hands, and a physical style. These attributes have a lot of value in the pro game and can take you far even if you’re not that skilled.

Chisora had a good fight against Usyk thanks to the small ring. In a 20x20, Usyk would win at least ten rounds.

I see your point and tbh I’m conflicted on this.

Certain fighters clearly want to continue fighting as long as they are able, and it isn’t just about money for them.
But I think there’s a strong argument to be made that once a fighter starts showing signs of brain damage, there’s an onus on the sport to look after them.
Those around these fighters only stand to gain by encouraging them to continue. Governing bodies could and should do more imo.

If we want to stop McDonalds from serving Big Macs to 400lb dudes, ok. You get what I'm saying right? If Chisora understands the dangers and his current medical situation -- and I haven't seen anything from him indicating he's remotely in the category of failing to understand what he's doing -- why can't he keep going?

I do get what you're saying. But at the same time, people are 100% free to wreck their health through numerous other things. If a man understands what he's doing and wants to keep at an athletic pursuit anyway, why stop him? How do you know a man can't be thinking "I grew up poor and starving, if setting my kids up for life takes my brain turning into goo, so be it"? And if those are his thoughts? Can you really tell him he can't do it? As opposed to a guy who wants to smoke 3 packs a day, guzzle a 750ml of jack daniels every night, and eat nothing but Big Macs, he's all cool?

Yes, another great example of a fighter that has personal belief of the old adage ' if at first you don't succeed....'

Another thing I liked about Holyfield in particular, was his live in the gym mentally. I imagine training him was a very straightforward no nonsense, no dramas, no coaxing needed situation, etc.

In fact, I imagine his trainers very probably had to insist he goes home at the end of a training session, such was his work ethic & dedication.

I’ve read that he was hard headed in the gym and clashed with trainers over what he should actually be doing. But I’m sure he was the first dude to show up, busted his ass every single day, followed his nutrition plan to the t, didn’t drink or use drugs, never failed to show up, etc. look at him today, he still looks real fit and lean.

It isn't even .0005% likely to happen.

Unfortunately for Delboy I think Dubois murders him in 3 rounds (styles) and Usyk would probably stop him within 9-10 round this time
