A donation fund is set up in Oscar's name. If you'd like to help with his medical costs, you can donate at the San Antonio National Bank at 45 NE Loop 410. University Hospital is also accepting donations in Oscar's name. For more information, call 210-358-2812. They give us all, it's time to give back.
By the way good idea with this thread. I wanted to do something like this a while back when I heard that Wilfredo Benitez was having a hard time and still think it would be a good idea. Lots of posters here.. if everyone kicks down just a little bit it would be a great way to give to the guys who give to us.
The promoter of him, all of these 6 figure salary people like Atlas and others who were so torn up about it, ought to seriously chip in and cover his medical costs, as he's a low paid athlete and fighter. They have the money to cover it completely and not make a dent in their financial situation. Sad thing is that promoters ought to pay a premium health insurance for their fighters anyway, pity they don't, when they take the largest cut.
I'm from San Antonio and this is really sad for boxing with oscar in the coma. But, the good news is that sa doctors have said that since oscar was in such good shape and he didnt drink or smoke that he'll probally make it through this. All the news since oscar fell into the coma has been positive, on thursday the surgery to reduce the swelling in his brain was a success. Although, sadly he still hasnt woken up. If ya want to know more about the donation fund there is an article about it with all the info on mysanantonio.com
The promoter of the fight should take the lead and put up a fund drive not only for the guy's medical expenses but also for the family. De La Hoya and Arum should take steps to prove to people they cared for the sports and the fighters. Time to walk the talk!
