Weak american heavyweight prospects

Witherspoon kind of reminds me of Tony Thompson. They both throw alot of jabs, neither are punchers, both have lapses in defense. Witherspoon is quicker, but Thompson uses his size better. Thompson was handed a win against Krasniqi, it was bizarre. Thompson although got the victory, he did not look that good, Krasniqi did not attempt fight it was a disgrace.

Witherspoon is also quite a bit younger than Thompson, and thus has the potential to go farther. I was not particularly impressed with him tonight, and in fact gave his opponent a few of the early rounds. If he wanted to impress, he should have blown this guy out early - which is really what prospect should do with a guy like Griffis.

What do you think of Thompson? Do you see any similarities? I think they are quite alike in many ways.

It looked like Witherspoon could of just steamrolled Griffs, but all he was doing was throwing jabs. He made the fight so much harder than it had to be. Obviously , he didnt look good tonight but he does some talent there. Witherspoons jab is quite good and if he improves his defense he can be ok. I really dont think he has much power though.

 

I don't really think that much of Thompson, and based on what I saw tonight, I don't think a whole lot of Witherspoon either. The difference is, Witherspoon has time to learn, to improve. Thompson, at 36, is about as good as he's ever gonna be - i.e. fringe contender/gatekeeper type. Witherspoon, I agree, didn't seem to have much of a fight plan, and like I said, he let Griffis outwork him in a couple of the early rounds.

Defense can, of course, be improved. The lack of power will be a problem, frankly, unless he improves some of the other areas of his game. He really needs to up his workrate and mix his punches up better.

 

Stoppage was fine, Griffas was getting hit hard and watch his reaction and the way he walked after the fight was called. I would of liked the ref to let it go maybe another 5-10seconds and give Chazz a time to KD Griffas, but I'm not complaing about that stoppage.

Now if this was a title fight, or a fight with any real meaning, then I'd ***** about the stoppage a little more, but in the end, Griffas didn't give a ****, and didn't complain, and he was taking too many flush headshots.

 

If Witherspoon inproves his defense , he can be a fighter like Larry Donald , Mccline, Ray Austin level. I dont think we were witnessing the savior of the HW division, but he could possibly be a contender. Witherspoons jab is good, and he is a smart man, but improvements must be made especially in defense.

Call it favortisim if you will(a Pittsburgh thing as Chambers hometown, even though he's fighting out of Philly these days), but I'm an Eddie Chambers fan and if he stay's the course of working hard, he'll make some noise. Outside of W. Klitschko, i think he's 3-5 fights from possibly dethroning one of the other Euro 'Champs".

Eh, Witherspoon ain't ****, and none of us would even know who he is if it wasn't for his last name. He'll be a nice gatekeeper someday, but not much more.
