Who lacked physical strength, but could hit harder than the rest of 'em? I've never really considered Frazier to be one of the stronger fighters, but he obviously hit very hard. I've also never really considered Hearns to be extremely strong, but again, he obviously could hit with the best of them, arguably a top 10 P4P hardest hitter.

I've heard that Frazier went on a "Pros vs. Joes"-type show not long after he retired (or maybe while he was still active?) and got thoroughly embaressed on the bench press. Can anyone confirm this?

Most of the taller guys from the lower weight classes are probably weaker than their shorter counterparts, even if they are big punchers, because they rely mostly on leverage for their power.

Hearns is a good pick, Corrales at 130 is probably a good pick as well. Tsyzu comes to mind, too.

Cheers Bill. Foster is considered by some the hardest P4P hitter in history, he and Hearns have that similar build of course. I am loathe to call either "weak", but they fit into what you have in mind i believe.

Yeah, no boxer is weak, but it's pretty obvious you get the idea by your picks.

It was on Battle of the Superstars and it was the military press. And yes, Frazier was not even as strong as the pole vaulter (Bob Seagram?) who won. In fact, it was embarrassing.

By the way, Kostya was noted as doing a 1000 push ups a day, so I don't reckon he was too weak.

I might get flamed and he might not be on the level of the above, but for such a muscular build and furious power Mike Tyson wasn't exactly Hercules in there.

I thought about it, but figure I wouldn't say anything because people would asume I just said it cause he beat Larry. But I agree with you, Tyson wasn't as strong as he looked. I'd say him and Frazier are pretty much on equal terms there.

Frazier failed to bench press 200 pounds on that show, I believe.

Kosta was actually a ****ing FREAK in the gym, supposedly capable of pressing over twice his own bodyweight.

    Stupidly strong guy.

Jimmy Wilde's a pretty obvious pick.

I recall an interview with Mike Tyson where he was saying that if boxing was all about stringth than weight lifters would be the best boxers.

Pole vaulters are incredibly strong, though.

    Fast, too.

And I take back my guess of Kostya :D Seems I was wrong.

Tommy Hearns get the nod easily. He may be one of the 10 heaviest p4p punchers ever. Strong inside fighters with a good chin could manhandle him as his legs often got shaky.

Bob Foster is a good example too...tall, lanky, thin legs.. but he could ice nearly anyone with one single punch.

And Mark Breland produced good pop despite being physically very very weak.

I also think Earnie Shavers had an average strenght at HW. Solid but not really impressive. On the other hand he's probably the heaviest puncher ever.

I think Shavers was very strong. He bulled Norton, Ali, Holmes, and Cobb around, and they aren't easy to bull.
