What fights can we name where one fighter absorbed an inhuman amount of punishment to the body but went the distance regardless. I was particularly impressed with how well Roberto dealt with hard-hitting Barkley's thunderous body shots in '89. I had Duran sweeping the last four rounds. A more modern example would probably be the constant hooks that Joshua Clottey was taking for 12 rounds against the Filipino sensation. They were sustained, and being dug-in with conviction. Let's hear some more examples.

Ward and Gatti both committed to each other's body and Gatti even sustained an ordinarily fight-ending liver shot and all three went the distance. Very, very impressive.

Creed was on EPO and Balboa was on roids, though. So...I mean, if you really, really want to count that anyway, it's up to you. :deal

You have already mentioned the best example I've ever seen of this - Duran vs Barkley. I can't think of another fight that compares to it. A fleshy, mw Duran ate some hellacious bodyblows without so much as a grimace.

Then you have got to check out Jeff Chandler against Gaby Canizales. That scrawny mid-section of Jeff's handled rib-burners for 15 rounds.

Pintor's hooks to the ribs of Gomez were technically correct. Wilfredo ended that one looking like a faded samurai warrior, but the fact was that he also weathered ridiculous amounts of body punishment. This is somewhat surprising, as he was one of the most proficient in the game at picking off body blows earlier in his career. (Of course Gomez was a murderous body puncher himself, truly a complete fighter at his peak.)

Bonavena against Frazier is the best example.

FOTC is also a good example. Let's not forget just because it's Ali.

I'd imagine any fighter that had sustain action with Armstrong would be noteworthy. Possibly one of those LaMotta vs SRR fights that weren't filmed.

Leonard against Duran in monteral, especially in round 2 I think it is or maybe round 3 but Duran goes to Rays body like an animal, shows how tough of a fighter Leonard was.

Unfortunately there is no video evidence currently uploaded on Youtube, but Michael Carbajal's title winning effort against Camacho was particularly devastating. Sustained throughout the 12, with the always observant Al Bernstein calling it "one of the most sustained body attacks I think I've ever seen". Particularly noteworthy and yet Camacho never wilted or really came close to doing so. Wonderful stuff.

Hey how about George Foreman vs Muhammad Ali - not only the ribs but the general mid-section - the pit of the stomach - especially in the 5th round - i just can not understand how Ali was able to take that, he must've had freakishly inhuman ability - infact i don't know how the human body can take that kind of blasting without any holes appearing!! - I'm not squeamish at all but that is a moment in the 5th which makes me go OH MY GOD!! - an then he came back to actually topple the monster man??
