1970 Frazier - 1980 Weaver Weaver would be a huge underdog and no one in their right mind would pick him to win but at the time, he was one of the best heavyweights around giving Larry a tough fight, and whipping Tate, Coetzee, Tillis, a draw with Dokes, and KO over Williams How would this go. I think he puts up a fight because Joe was not a fast starter Does he do better than Ellis, Quarry, Stander, and Bugner? Quarry is the kind of guy who could hit Frazier all day long, but cant move him. With Weaver, he hits with much stronger authority but he doesnt do enough. He had to settle for a draw with Dokes in a match he could have won with a better effort.
Cool matchup! I always liked Weaver, thought he showed lots of promise against Holmes and Coetzee...and was positive he beat Dokes in the 2nd fight. FOTC Frazier was too mean and powerful. Mike could floor Frazier, but would be heartbroken when he got back up clapping his gloves together (so would Mike Tyson imo). Weaver would be toast in 10, easy.
If a fighter didn't do much Weaver would do the same, if the fighter made Weaver fight, Weaver would do the same. Weaver had skills, was a hard puncher, was physically strong, and had stamina. He's much more dangerous as a puncher than Quarry, Stander, Bugner, and Ellis, plus he could box. Weaver would be the betting underdog but dangerous for Frazier. Frazier would make him fight and Weaver would be throwing hard shots back...anything could happen.
He's going to need a right hand to do it that quickly. This could well go the distance in a tough fight
sounds right. The Holmes fight gives evidence to this. Larry is a much more versatile fighter than Frazier but if I had to bet money, I'd lean toward Frazier
Really? Did Mike ever get knocked down six times and get back up clapping his gloves together ready to fight?
