Terrific fight, big respect to Sam Webb.:thumbsup Personally I felt Webb fought the wrong fight from the get go, even though he had success early. I felt backing up was the wrong thing to do against the longer taller fighter, that even though he was taking the jab away from Aaron, that sooner or later he would realize, and start mixing the right hand in, and that is where there fight would changed imo, as Webb, even when having success, was fighting at the the end of Aaron's range. Webb might of done better backing Aaron up, cutting the ring down, using the jab to close distance, then staying close, banging the body imo.
Yep spot on as ever mate :good I loved his work early but they didn't take into consideration the amount of work that sorta game plan takes. At times he was only just making Arron miss and by round 4 he was feeling heat. He would of been better stepping to inside and working and breaking down Arron as you say. Webb can fight like that so would of made sense.
I agree that being put in hard early has given him more experience. he still could have went about it in a safer way that wouldnt have given his career multiple setbacks. He should have built up his competition a bit slower at the beginning of his career, instead of fighting the likes of Small and Duddy.
Cheers. Yeah, and Webb can fight like that, which is one of the reasons I thought he might win this one, but as soon as the bell went and he went on the backfoot, I thought he's gonna have problems here. I thought it was gonna be a close fight, but that Webb has more dog in him, can fight and Box, has a good engine, so that if he fought an aggressive fight, mixed in his skills at the same time, that he could outwork Aaron, but as you say, for all his moving, a lot of it wasn't that purposeful, and he paid the price down the stretch.
I guess its one of those things.........when the target is moving, its difficult to get off with the right hand, but when the target becomes more stationary due to fatigue, its easier to zero in with a right hand when the target is not moving
Anyone else have the feeling that if there was a rematch Webb could win, providing of course that he fights the right fight?
Exactly. I wonder if he wanted to show case his skills :think. It was a strange plan to take up. I mean he started to get close but would land 1 punch maybe 2 then get back out to long range. Shame cos thought he would of won tonight...but i like Arron he's a good kid and put the mileage in.
It would be a competitive fight again but im not sure if Webb could win in a rematch. Seems to me he took a terrible beating and Arron is getting better by the day say if they fight again in 6 months i would probably favour Arron to do the business again but in better fashion.
Hmmm i'd love to see a rematch. I dunno i think he can but i noticed his facial expression for each round after he winced. Arron really did hurt him bad with that shot. You never know what this will do to Arron he might excel from here on in. I believe Webb has the ability to win a rematch but it could quite easily end up being Arron winning again and more convincingly. Tonight could change the careers of both...hope it doesn't mean Webb slides away he's a good fighter.
I guess he would have to watch out for the counter uppercut if he fought a more aggressive fight, that said, he'd probably be safer inside, trying to get inside Aaron's range and stay there, than he would be on the end of his range. I dont understand why a fighter would stand off someone who is 6 ft 3 and try to counter punch, cause straight away you have to respect the distance, which means you have to operate from further out, so picking up counters is not easy, as most tall fighters keep it long, they dont fall into mid range and leave countering opportunities.
Its an interesting fight anyways, and tonights bout certainly warrants a rematch. We cant forget how Webb swepped the early part of the fight using his movement and skills either. He seemed in decent shape tonight, but as was said before he might have used too much energy too early with the movement. It seemed to me that Aaron paced himself the better of the two.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Sometimes when a guy beats you, even when you try to change up, he still beats you, like he was destined to have your number no matter what, could be one of them, who knows. One thing is for sure, that fight will of took a helluva lot out of Webb. Pity Webb's corner are as brave as he is, that fight should of been stopped a lot sooner. Imagine if that was your brother, or your son in there?
