Im not an MMA guy, but can u guys tell me about Torres? Ive seen his fight against Manny tapia and god dayam i was impressed.. Only if more MMA fights were like that, id be a real fan... Is this guy the real deal and how does he stack up against the other top guys in the division?
One of my favourite fighters. He's the best in the division and I can't see him losing too anyone in the WEC anytime soon. Very well-rounded, has great striking and jiu-jitsu. Power, speed the man has it all. Best Bantamweight in MMA imo and top 5 p4p.
Figuratively speaking, Miguel Torres is to MMA what Ricardo Lopez was to boxing. He's a top ten P4P fighter flying under the radar because the higher weights are always considered the glamor divisions. The little guys always get overlooked.
Ic ic... So he has no competition in his weight class?? Is there a chance of him making a move to UFC or does UFC even have a bantamweight division? Im guessing no but..... Who can give him a challenge?
UFC is 155 LW, 170 WW, 185 MW, 205 LHW, 206-265 HW WEC is 125 Fly W (Division is launching this year), 135 BW, 145 Feather W, 155 LW Zuffa owns both promotions and is making the WEC the #1 place for small fighters, they also might add female divisions in the future and drop 155. It's not accurate to say he has no competition but it is true he will be favored in all bouts at 135 with the exception of a bout with Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto whom he would probably be even money with. His next bout is with Takeya Mizugaki (a top 10 BW) who should at least give him a entertaining fight.
He is a representaive of a newly developing talent pool that has been providing great boxers for years. Young, working class, kids from the city. Stylistically he was originally a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu guy, who has gotten so good on the ground that he has absolutely nothing to lose by being taken down, in fact he welcomes it; his ground skills allowed him to be great on his feet because he can always know that he has another way to win the fight, allowing him to spend time to properly learn striking technique properly, and allowing him to take chances a guy worried about going to the ground would not. He is sort of an inverted Anderson Silva at 135
Right on. Although he is way better on the ground in my opinion than Silva. But Silva, is better on his feet. But I get your point
Kid Yamamoto is the only guy with the same level of experience and talent in the division, Bibiano Fernandes and Jose Aldo are guys that could challenge Torres in a few more fights.
That's what I'm trying to say, his ground game is like Anderson's striking and his stand up is like Andersons ground game.
Kid's a Featherweight, not a Bantam. They likely wouldn't be fighting, as Kid probably wouldn't move down and I'm not sure how Torres would fare at Feather. If he does move up, I'd love to see him against Jose Aldo, who I also believe is the real deal and can't wait until he faces Faber.
Kid walks around at a street weight of 143 the so called Dream Featherweight Division is 139lbs, if he came to the WEC he would fight at 135 BW.
I guy I train with had an MMA fight tonight in Chicago and Torres was there cornering a half dozen guys from his gym. It was a pretty cheap event, and the only two heavies on the card broke the cage wide open the first time they hit it. Anyway, he looks even smaller in person and his guys all looked like they knew what they were doing. My two cents.
