At the UFC, the weigh-ins have been moved about 24 to 36 hours before the fights to allow fighters to rehydrate. In fact the public weigh-ins are false weigh-ins for the show.

In boxing the norm was always to really weigh the boxers at the public weigh-in, which gives failures like Kovalev against Canelo at random.

But here I see that Canelo vs Ryder and Haney vs Loma had "hidden" weigh-ins

The weigh-ins must be less than 24 hours before the bout and even that's a bit much.

Fighters shouldn't be cutting 20 even up to 25 pounds to make weight leading sometimes two weeks into a fight.

They should all be forced up to their true weight class instead and this will propagate across the entire sport.

They should be weighed entering the ring with massive pay fines and belt stripping if they go over a certain threshold.

They should also do a "show" weigh in the night before so we can see their love handles and judge how good a shape they are in based on their level of belly fat.

It would be better for the sport although the divisions would look a little different. Cruiserweight might need looking at maybe up to 205.

It all depends who is calling the shots, doesn't it?
