I don't agree that bigger guys or heavier guys necessarily hit harder.
Max Kellerman was saying how Lennox Lewis must have hit harder than Shavers because he was 240 pounds and all this.
Now I think Lewis hit super hard with the ol' right cross but I'm not sure what weight has to do with it. Whoever hit harder just had that talent for it.
Going by Kellerman, that would mean Valuev would KO everyone he fight yet,Valuev couldn't break eggs and he was the biggest.
It comes down to god given talent and technique.
You either hit hard or you don't. Tyson at 220 and 5'10 could KO guys as big as Klitschko and Tua debuted at only 201 pounds! His power was there and it was a gift. Power doesn't increase with weight or else Wladimir would be 300 pounds.

And think about Golovkin. He hits hard enough to bother cruiserweights and smallish heavyweights (he spars with CW's and some heavyweights)
yet Golovkin is only 160 pounds. His power is just pure talent.

    Any thoughts?

Exactly. It has no direct relationship to size. Tua at 201 was breaking jaws.
Liston at 210,even Marciano at 185 KO'd a few guys who were 250 pounds!

weight does help, but to a certain people it won't anymore. If you gain 50 pounds in fat, you won't punch harder because you'll be out of shape and won't be able to rotate your muscles properly. I lost 8 pounds of fat that I gained from my vacation in the summer and I'm punching harder now

Oh yes Golovkin the God of power

I'm sure Andre Ward would have more KO's if he fought the same quality opposition as Golovkin.

I actually think Proska has the power advantage in their fight he has Koed decent opponents.

Weight has little to do with how much power someone can generate. With that said, weight must be transferred from one side of the body to the other for a punch to be properly delivered. Logically, the heavier someone is the more weight there will be behind the punch :think...

:D In all seriousness it has to do with proper mechanics and form. Just look how perfect Bailey has that form whem he throws the right. Everything else sucks, but he does that perfectly. LL had very good form. Those big guys are obviously heavy handed so sometimes they got lazy. Shavers not the strongest, fastest, or biggest, but he had great form, something even many pros today lack or disregard.

Weight does help, it's the punching technique and the ability for someone to even use there body weight to there punch. Some people can do it some people don't know how to transfer there weight into the punch.

god damnit thats what i meant but you beat me to it.

Technique. It's also a mental thing. Some people hold back an don't follow through. Others afraid of getting injured

That would be true taking into account the technical side of things, the science of punching.
But many guys have the wrong technique. Vitali is an arm puncher for example.

That's a good point. Strength also has little to do with punching power.
They say Kubrat Pulev is super strong but yet again he can't break china.
So punching power like I had figures is more about the correct technique.
But there are exceptions to the rule. Like George Foreman in his prime. His wide looping wild swings did serious damage.
