Yo, dawgs. Will I be at a serious disadvantage in the amateurs if I fought at 81kg instead of 75kg? I am growing and I am tired of attempting to keep weight down. I am 5"10, 20 yrs old.
I gather from your post that you struggle to make weight? If this is the case, struggling to make weight would be a bigger concern than how tall you are. Always fight in the class where you feel strongest. Disadvantages in height, reach etc determine your strategy, and strategy is something that is easily adjusted from fight to fight. Losing/gaining weight is not something that comes easily, and as such, you should look to fight at a weight you can make comfortably - your body will thank you for it in the long run.
I don't struggle to make weight but I don't like having on my mind to check my walkaround weight all the time and all that jazz I am not at that much of a serious level yet, I am a rank beginner. But I think I am past being able to make 75kg on a regular basis unless I really try and not gain any weight day to day. But yeah just a thought. I will see how I go and do what's comfortable thanks.
I'm 6'1 walking weight of 84-86kg. I will be fighting at 78kg's. At that weight i should have height on lot of fighters. One of my sparring partners is 6'4 and fights at 75kg, also he said his fought a bloke taller than him hahaha, dude must of been thin as a rake.
You cut 6-8kgs at that weight for tournaments or one off fights? Is 78kgs a category? I thought it was 75 then 81.. If there was in between would be nice.
pretty sure 75 is middle 78 supermiddle 81 light heavy and 85 cruiser. In Aus i think only ABL has supermiddle and cruiser, ABA just has middle and light heavy.
