Very interesting.... Mayweather & Pacquiao started out around the same weight but Pacquiao didn't have the conditioning and proper training compared to Mayweather back when they were young.

    Very interesting.

I didn't know Mayweather was 106 pounds when he was 16 years old. He was even lighter than Pacquiao. While Pacman had a progressive weight jump between 18-20 years old, Mayweather jumped from 112 to 125 at age 19.

    Good thread.

I don't think their weight at 16 matters much since most people are far lighter at that age, Mayweather is taller so it isn't suprising that he would be heavier as he got older.

Is that a hypothesis or a fact?

Maybe Mayweather jumped to 130 because he saw more opportunities.

But poor Pacquiao been accused using some sort of Performance enhancing drugs or steroids to jump from one weight class to another.
Mayweather is more suspect than Pacquiao especially his behaviour etc.. :huh

I think Pac is more suspect. Especially because he is the one who refused the drug tests. But I don't want to accuse anybody.

Mayweather is an amazing specimen. Why are we celebrating Pac's weight jump

I don't find amateur weights very meaningful. Amateur boxing is another world. I'm only interested in the pro records. No-one talks about what weight other great fighters started out at in the amateurs, the only thing that matters is the pro's. That's why Pac won titles at 112, 122 & 126 before he even got to the weight where Floyd won his 1st world title.

When Pac won his 1st world title (112lbs) he was a couple of weeks off being 21 years old.

When Mayweather won his 1st world title (130lbs) he was... 21.

At the same age (the age they matured to world level as boxers) they were 18lbs or 5 weight classes apart. Thus, they are not naturally the same size at all. :deal

check again. pac was still 19 when he won his first title against sasakul in his hometown. just a few weeks short of his 20th bday. and i agree, amateur doesn't count. if it does, then cotto also started when he was fighting ivan calderon.

Uh, just because you dont find them meaningful doesnt mean they arent. It could even be argued that training for 12 rounds you are likely to drop way more weight than an amateur training for 3. Besides, if Floyd had gone pro at the same age as pacquiao, regardless of his age he would have achieved as much if not more, so would that automatically mean that he would have to be on something?

Floyd has always been around 5-8lbs heavier than Pac, even today but they are both very small framed fighters who have a hard time packing on lbs.

Thank you. I was going to say the same thing. You could trace their weights back to the cradle and find them both weighing about 8 pounds when they were born and that doesn't mean they are naturally the same size. As adults, when they had finished growing, there was a clear twenty pound advantage to Mayweather.

If you look at them in the ring, Pac and Juan Manuel Marquez are the same size. When JMM fought Mayweather, Mayweather was much bigger.
