For me Ive always been puzzled as to why there is a light flyweight division. I see the point in straweight as there are some fighters who naturally fit that weight, like Ricardo Lopez and Calderon, flyweight is a bit to big for them. But surely 1 kilo does not make that big a difference. Maybe they should lift the straweight limit a pound or two and scrap light fly. Some people may say cruiser but since they lifted the limit to 200 and in the age of the superheavy I think it makes sense to have it. Though it has a pretty rich history and is one of premier divisions right now I think superfly is another one that we could do without.
I think it should be flyweight, featherweight, LW, WW, MW, LHW, CW & HW. Plenty of unecesarry weights in between. Fact that theres so much more multiple wieght division champs today proves that. All it does is it separates talents in what should be in 1 weight class to 2 separate weight class. Great example of this is the 130lb & 135lb division. Had it not been for Guzman puling out we would have had 135lb completely dominated by 130lbers...The 2 weight class could have easily mixed and be put in 1.
Cruiserweight is useless. Anyone over 175 is a heavyweight. If being big is the biggest factor in success, how did anyone ever beat Carnera, Willard or Valuev? With the departure of Haye from Cruiser, and Mormeck being past it, 200 is as barren as over 200.
Do you realise how few fighters could not make 215 for a weigh in the day before a fight? There would only be Wlad, Valuev and Toney left at (super)heavyweight just about.
Cruiserweight is one we obviously need. How the hell are guys who fight at 175lbs like Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver supposed to move up and fight in the same division as Wlad Klitschko, Nikolay Valuev and all the other 240+lbs monsters? If you eliminate cruiserweight then you would have to create a super-heavyweight division, so there's no point in doing so. We should have 10 divisions - the original 8 plus minimumweight/strawweight and cruiserweight.
No, you are wrong. We need more divisions, such as jr. minimumweight. This is 80 pounds and under. And then, jr. Cruiserweight. thats 189-195, Cruiser should be 195-210, and then Superheavyweight, over 350 pounds.
I like the divisions the way they are right now.. Adding more divisions would just be too many, but taking some away, then it could cause some problems.. Maybe like some fighters having trouble to make weight in a new division.. Either way, I say keep the divisions as it is..
