let it go mate, you're wrong on this one you're over-complicating it in essence: lifting light weights for many reps might build muscular endurance, but it won't help you make great strength or power gains - so you might be able to do more press ups but you won't be able to hit any harder lifting heavy weights for power movements - eg squats/deadlifts for 5 reps builds power in your muscles. when you have more power, you hit harder. by your logic, you hit harder than tyson because all his muscle slows him down. whereas your well-worked fast-twitch muscles have all the power they need from lifting a 2lb dumbell
Just so you know who you are arguing with...am pretty sure this is Ylem. He tried to sell me on the whole "slow twitch fiber is where its at for boxing cardio, yo" on a different site and I basically called him a ...well, use your imagination. I won't call him a **** again, but just say he needs to get to an actual gym. I might be wrong, but I cant see how it isn't him. how many Ylems are there on boxing forums with the same thinking? And 2 years boxing = smashing his 70 lb bag in his garage. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qoKPeJd8Xe0[/ame]
Whoever that is it's embarrassing, out of all of these terrible home made 'look at me on the heavybag' videos I've seen that's probably the worst/funniest I've seen. A big caveman looking dude leading with his head and slapping with his hands by his waist. The highlights for me were when he charged in with his head pushing the bag with it and when he turns his back to the bag
i opened this thread like a i have on so many weight lifting for boxing threads i have in the past. Being a boxer that is into alot of body weight exercises, conditioning and cardio ect. Iv been looking to include weights into my training for a while now and learn more about weight training for fighters. However when ever i read a thread on here it degenerates to this lol :verysad owel guess ill keep looking. or get off my arse and research myself
What worked for me in the strengthening dept...was taking some time off and periodising. In the off season. I worked on bulking up by eating a stoopid amount of calories to increase fat stores, and began a Starting Strength program. (google it) Basically a good program of high weight, low reps with a proven formula. The reason for the off season is because there are only so many hours in the day, and this sort of heavy lifting requires a lot of recovery boxing won't necessarily allow. I hit the goals I wanted...moved up from middle weight to light heavy and had some strength and bang to go with it...Mar 1 I weighed 165, just last month I was 187 after weight program...and THEN..I cut down to 178 to prepare to fight...and began to re start all the plyo, iso, sprints and focus on skill drills etc again. It's just really tough to do it properly all at once.
I'd say that bag weighs at least 100lbs, he's just so unbelievably powerful from his 2lb dumbbell curls. I really don't get it, after watching the whole thing I'm kinda lost at the point of the video... Why would somebody record themselves throwing their arms at a heavy bag for a few minutes and post it on the Internet? WTF? I'm very intimidated by it though, to the point I'd LOVE to spar this guy at my kickboxing class :rofl
Why do you say you ate a stupid amount of calories to increase your fat stores? Bulking isn't about getting fat. Surely you ate more calories to give your body the resources it needed to build more muscle...
yea basically, because I was still doing boxing training 3x a week. And I run really lean on bodyfat as it is. So not to end up in catabolic states, the extra fast stores just gave me something to burn so it didn't end up being muscle ate. Worked really well as a way to build strength fast. But all the eating, then eventually cutting to get rid of fat stores does suck balls. But hey...not like cutting is anything new to us fighting. Stop eating, get running!
keep in mind i had just hung the bag up and i was looking for advice. and heres 6 months after that..... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bEitDoqJuY&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL[/ame] that's still a year and a few months old ill put up a newer one with me jabbing and throwing rights in alittle.
My problem with you is this Ylem. You tell people you have 4 years of MMA and 2 years of boxing. Which to most translates to, training in a gym at the very least...fighting and competing maybe also. And try to sound like a coach to new people just beginning. But really, you've never stepped into a gym. Which is fine. If you'd just say that, you wouldn't of just got exposed and constantly ripped on. You'd just be told..."yo, dude, get to a gym."
been going to a gym since july this year i belive when i posted the first video i had posted it asking if i should start going to a gym and the overwhelming was dude get to a gym. i dont understand your point. i go to a gym now and when i had posted the videos i made no such claim that i was going to a gym.
