Suffering from what i think is tendinitis in the shoulder area and its a ****ing wind up..:-( Just took a rest from the weight training for nearly 3 weeks, back in the gym tonight to do a chest workout...first reasonably heavy set on the flat bench and bang there it goes again. It's not mega painful and I can struggle through with it but I think I might end up making it a lot worse! I'm warming up/stretching and as I said before I took nearly 3 weeks off rest! Anybody experienced anything similar? Is there any exercises I could do to help strengthen the area or summit, maybe lower the weight up the reps for a few weeks, anything?!? Getting quite frustrated with it now and might go see the Doc but I'm sure he'll just tell me to rest it.
I had a problem with my shoulder Infact both shoulders....get some physio therapy that helped me alot it took weeks (about 6) for me to fully recover. I also used one of those elastic bands to perform some exercises which helped to build up my strength back in my shoulder. But my main advice is do a google search and pay someone to look at you and do some physio therapy it's the best thing I ever did.
Take a look at your form, are your elbows flared right out? Also, do some shoulder mobility work. Actually train your rotator cuffs also.
This. Go to a physio and get your mobility checked out. And if it's an option look at using a swiss bar (particularly one with angled handles)
Shoulder pain? No need to explain... Rotator cuff injury! I had the exact same thing, it wasn't a rotator cuff injury, turned out to be a pinched nerve or something. Still can't do heavy overhead work, had to cut it all out most likely never do heavy overhead again. I can tell you right now the very worst thing you can do is "struggle through" exactly what I done hence the ****ed up shoulder over a year on.
I can feel slight pain almost constantly.. Slight increase in pain when pressing out upwards in front or behind head. Most painful when doing an action that involves the shoulder joint rotating (something like "around the worlds" would really aggravate it).
I've been recommended a physio and will be booking an appointment for early next week. Didn't realise private physio could be so reasonable Thanks for the advice.
I think possibly my form has suffered and I may have actually originally injured it on either shoulder press with dumbells or flat bench barbell. I've been back training about 4 months now but since Christmas first couple of weeks of the year my weights went up quite significantly (about 20 kg on bench) and as a result and probably trying a bit too hard I think my form has probably gone to ****! I think my elbows probably do flare right out when I'm really straining :-( Thanks for bringing it to my attention, something ill deffo avoid in future.
I know what you're saying, but you know what it's like when you're forced to rest an injury and you feel like all the graft you've put in in recent months is Gradually going to waste... It's proper frustrating! Anyway I'll prob keep training but rest the shoulder area as much as possible and see how the physio goes and what advice they can give me.
Wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just every time someone mentions any kind of shoulder pain/injury on this forum it's always diagnosed instantly as a rotator cuff problem.
