Well, i wanted to know a few things. I was thinking of starting to lift more but i dont know if it will help me as far a boxing goes. the main reason i think i want to lift is to get ready for summer college session. i definetly need to get big and in shape for the ladies but i onli got a little less than a month. what can i do.:hey oh and can this help with boxing at all. oh and is it good to shadowbox wit 5 pound weights like throwin cuts and stuff.any workout plans will help remmember a month is a ll i got. got a heavy bag but dont want stamina want cuts and to be ripped.:good
Do you want to be big or strong? Those are two different things. If you want to get big with a little strength on the side look up Hypertrophy Specific training. If you're looking for strength, look up Bill Starr or Mark Ripptoes' strength routines.
Do not shadow box with five pound weights. That is crazy and asking for an injury. If you do use weight, use no more than 1lb. each hand.
I know everybodys different but **** man I shadow box 3 rouns with 5 pound weights and im fine with it. Im not to agressive with them because look they slip somethings going to break. I dont see a injury occuring unless your way too agressive with them or just dont stretch out our arms properly. They have helped a tad bit with my hand speed but ill admitt its tough to do it for anymore then 3 rounds because of the weight.
In terms of muscle in under a month you can do **** all. Only thing you can do is lose a few pounds of fat.
You obviously want the looks more than the boxing. Weights are essential for most people to build a strong base through big compounds lifts such as squats, bench presses, deadlifts, and power cleans. I think they are needed for cutting down if you're really overweight and bulking up if your really underweight, but for random 1-2 pounds, most people here have enough knowledge to control those 1-2 or pounds and gain/lose them in a week without touching weights. If you want looks, split bodybuilding is the answer, if you want strength, compound lifts 3X's a week is the answer. All that being said, weights will NOT make you a better boxer. You want to fight at your natural class or a weight class below you, not above. You should refrain from any weightlifting at least 6 weeks out from a fight and focus more on old-fashioned conventional boxing work, roadwork, and calisthenics. The shadowboxing up to 5LB weights is okay, just remember that it's more about going through the motions and your technique, don't go all out and tear something up. Also in my opinion: Stamina > Strength. I would pick the 152LB fighter that could do 400 straight Hindu Squats over the one that could Squat 400Lbs on my team any day.
Shadowboxing with 1 pound weights is optimal, since that's what a 16 ounce glove weighs. As for the rest, virus is right. You will not gain much muscle in a month, the best you can do is some cardio to make the muscle you already have more visible.
