Cleverly could win if he pulls a B hop. He is at home and the ref will most likely let him do whatever he wants. So he could make it ugly, hold a lot, kindney shot when he can, wrestle him and spoil the fight for first 8 rounds. Make the first 8 so ugly that they are hard to judge and you know any close round is his, then in the 9th get on his bike and jab his way to a close decision. Like I said not pretty but it is only way I can see him winning, If bernard ever fight Kovalev, this is what he will do. this is the same thing Chilemba did to tony b, in their first fight.

Yes I think he has to get in close and make it ugly, tie Kovalev up, not let him plant his feet or get off his power shots. He has to throw flashy looking combinations as he does and get the crowd cheering. Tire Kovalev with body shots and with roughhouse tactics and leaning, clinching, etc. If he tries to box on the outside he better not be a stationary target because he will be giving Kovalev room to sit down on and throw big, hurtful punches.

One significant thing, no one knows how Kovalev will react to going into the
late rounds. If Cleverly shows his chin wont be dented, Kovalev might go down
    in flames.

tying Kovalev up may not work though, because he can fight on the inside

the only way i see Nathan going into the later rounds is if he's worked on his defense in camp, because despite his good chin, he gets hit too much for a top fighter, Kovalev's power will take it's toll if Clev eats too much leather early on

Cleverly can't afford to win ugly or take a robbery.

He needs HBO and the only way he can do that is with a convincing performance with excitement and a win!

Cleverly only gets hit when he chooses to stand and trade, In his last fight he boxed great at range in the early rounds before deciding to stand and trade and that was with a guy going in with 5 straight K/O wins, Cleverly's defence is seriously underrated

That is because we so rarely see it. I have watched the Tony beluew fight twice and Cleverly got hit a lot, and was given a gift by the judges. Not a robbery but it could have easily been a draw. Terry O Conner, had the fight 114 even. He had better show that phantom defense of his because he will need it.

Cleverly is the slight favorite in the UK with 4/6.

you can get evens on Kovalev.

Lost in translation I think. He's kinda been saying he's trained for the long fight, but won't be upset if it ends early.
