following with the theme of weird threads (the master plan of CT) what fights had weird endings? Ive read of 3 fights with odd endings 1. Cant remember the names but one fighter fell asleep between rounds and couldnt be awoken to start the next round, suspected foul play however, so he lost by a TKO 2. Cant remember names but both fighters landed simultenously in a world title bout and both went down and no way they were getting up so the referee lifted up the champion and declared him the winner without counting either fighter. 3. A deaf, mute Italian i cant remember his or his opponents name was in a fight where the light bulb above his corner broke and burnt his arm. The referee refused to rule a no contest so the Italian either pulled out that round or fought on at a huge disadvantage and pulled out later any more
That was a late career fight that Billy Papke had in Europe (England, I believe). Papke was the guy who won, not the one who (reportedly) fell asleep. Wolgast-Rivers. That ending is one Youtube. That was Mario D'Agata, although he lasted the distance I believe and lost on points.
Imagine losing your undefeated record for this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5nOCgCC2kQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRGpNDhgtAk
Duran-Buchanan was a bit of a weird ending seeing as the referee missed a clear low-blow after the bell went. Bowe-Golota 1 & 2 as well with Golota's constant low-blows despite being in control. Sorry I've got low-blows on the brain! :hey
I believe one of Virgil Hill's opponents cracked his head open on a ringside camera and lost the fight due to the cut.
Derrick Gainer against Freddie Norwood. Norwood fouled Gainer with an assortment of fouls that would make Eusebio Pedroza proud. He hit Gainer in the back, kidneys, and groin countless times. He threw Gainer to the ground also. For the 2nd time in the fight, Gainer just had enough and retaliated with his own low blows, left uppercuts to the groin. This happened as referee Paul Sita was pulling Norwood off of Gainer, as Norwood once again was fouling Gainer. For some reason, the ref gives Norwood a twenty count, even though Norwood is on the canvas and not out of the ring. Gainer's retaliatory low blows were blatant, although he laughably claimed they were body shots and the ref said "they were very close". Gainer wins because Norwood "cannot or does not make an attempt to get up" before the end of the count. Gainer wins his first world title. He should've won by DQ so that part was just, but what a strange way to win it.
Berbick vs John Tate..... The fight was going well for Berbick, but not a blowout. At the start of the 9th round Berbick hits Tate with a couple of good shots and Big John stumbles into the middle of the ring with Berbick in pursuit... Berbick punches tate in the back of the head as tate begans to fall to the canvas... The fight is declared a TKO victory for Berbick. & John Tate's career was never the same... He started hanging out in Knoxville, eating big macs and drinkin.
Adolpho Washington. He already had a cut, the camera zoomed in to see how bad it was.... and made it worse! I once went to a fight in the 80s, when the loser (Bobby Frankham) attacked the referee. Pryor/Young was strange.
Wlad-Brewster 1 where Wladdy has a panic attack, he might have overdosed his supplements too imo, but he decided to blame it on the cut man who put vaseline on him
Was it an early Hatton fight where his opponents dad who was also the kids trainer/cornerman jumped in the ring to protect his son
