Just watched Herbie Hide dominating Kulikauskas, winning every second of every round easily. Then Herbie got cut by headbutt and the referee ruled it as TKO loss for Hide. Another strange result - Beyer - Green 1. Green dropped Beyer twice early, then Beyer got cut by accidental headbutt and Green got DQ'd. You're welcome to add your 'strange' fights
The one that sticks out for me would be Duane Thomas's tko of John The Beast Mugabi....a left hook/thumb to the eye changed everything in a flash...the advancing, aggressive Mugabi spun around, leaned on the ropes clutching at his injured eye, while Thomas seized the moment and rained punches on the helpless Beast...forcing a tko. I loved that fight, incidently,...as I was reminded once again as to how sudden and unpredictably a fight can turn out.
Then Mugabi had the fortune of Rene Jacquot's ankle breaking when Mugabi won the WBC title a few years later. Two very strange endings.
Juan Coggi TD 5 Frankie Randall The two DQ losses Terry Norris had against Luis Santana Apparently if you get headbutted and fake injury, it can take you far. LOL.
Lomachenko in his second pro fight fighting for the world title, losing by split decision to Salido. Here's the weird things about this loss: 1. Lomachenko (403-1 as an amateur, 2xOlympic Gold, 2xWorld Amateur Champ) was going for a world title in his second pro fight (he won it in his third) 2. Salido on the weigh in was 2.5lbs over the weight limit. 3. Salido weighed 147lbs on fight night...for a featherweight contest, and even worse because it's stylistically a tough fight for Lomachenko. 4. Lomachenko was completely gunshy because he didn't have any comprehension of pacing strategies over 12 rounds. He was scared he might gas out. 5. Salido landed 110 shots overall, 80 of them being body shots. 40 of the body shots were low blows (there's a youtube video that counts them). The referee Laurence Cole did absolutely nothing about it. 6. Salido used the low blows to set up other shots, as well as gain points on effective aggression (which goes a long way if you're up against a gun shy fighter who is trying to understand his own pacing strategy lol), and have Lomachenko guard his ***** rather than his body. 7. Lomachenko genuinely thought he won the fight because he was pointscoring the amateur way - something he perfected with his 403-1 amateur record (including his 6-0 WSB record), in reality it was a fight that could have gone either way but Salido outhustled Lomachenko and taught him what it means to be a pro. Now that, is what I call the weirdest loss I've ever seen.
Damiani was having the performance of his career against Mercer. Then his nose shattered. Fight over.
:good The second fight being a complete replica of the first. Same with Colin Jones-Kirkland Laing I & II.
That's how Golota did things I remember him dropping Michael Grant twice in the first round when Grant was unbeaten and dominating the whole fight only to quit after being dropped towards the end and quitting while on his feet and totally fine......
Williams vs someone I don't remember is the weirdest fight ever. Ref kept awarding bogus knockdowns and finishing the round when Williams landed a solid punch. The fix was definitely in.
Yeah. Excellent fighter, but a complete mental midget. Listening to the testimony of people who watched him in the gym you'd think he was a complete beast, some insist that he was the best heavyweight they ever saw. But he just collapsed mentally under any sort of pressure. I remember after getting robbed in two back to back fights against Ruiz and Byrd he immediately fought for another title against Brewster. One of the most vicious first round KOs I've seen recently. [YT]FMImjcunXJo[/YT]
