For me, the first thing that comes to mind is Archie Moore's counter right that knocked Marciano down, although Marciano didn't seem hurt.
Very unorthodox looking punch yet perfectly executed, he got his right hand immediatly back in the position to block a left hook. I guess one develops his own style after 200+ professional fights.

    Let's hear some others.

Roberto Duran's innovative right hand slice that first knocked down Esteban De Jesus in their third fight.

The weirdest punches I've ever seen thrown were by heavyweight Tommy "Hurricane" Jackson, back in the '50s. He had an arsenal of weirdness.

He threw jabs with both hands at the same time, and -- for lack of a better description, "cymbol punches." Both hands to the head at the same time, as if banging cymbols.

Can't say they were all that affective, but they sure as hell were strange.

Gene Fullmer's jab- It just looked so awkward, but he sure jabbed the hell out of people with it.

...Robinson would turn his fist around when he through that right to the body. There's less padding and you get more knuckle on the kidney. A little old school trick.

Good call. Arguably the best heavyweight "hookercut" of all time.

Jackson was certainly the most unorthodox boxer ever.

Kid Gavilan's Bolo punch; mind you it is said he nicked it from Kid Chocolate.

Foreman's swings in the 70s looked weird (Ali's **** take is brilliant) but were effective.

How did SRR turn his fist, exactly?

He would dip to his left and then loop the right to the body at the kidneys, and he would turn the glove so that his knuckles were facing inward.

Leonard's left hook/uppercut that caught and hurt Hearns in the 1st fight. It didn't look very effective but it sure affected Hearns.

Merqui Sosa had a sort of telegraphed right which was a great punch.
