there's been fights where the hometown fighters lost but i'm talking about big fights where it was suppose to be like a coming home party that just blew up in their face.
    not like broner-malanagi or judah-garcia

    judah-spinks ii
    alvarado-ruslan
    hatton-senchenko
    mares-gonzales
margarito-mosley mosley is an socal guy too but i believe it was a pro margarito crowd and it was going to be his coming out party after beating cotto

Not the biggest fight but Mitchell getting knocked out by Katsidis at Upton Park springs to mind.

    Clev - Kovalev.

His last 2 fights had been in Cali. and London, it was supposed to be both his homecoming and the 'breakout' fight that would propel him into the big time.

Maravilla - Murray was a close call for Sergio as well.

Kirkland TKO6 Angulo in Mexico (Kirkland was fed to Angulo as a showcase/stepping stone fight to eventual bouts with bigger fish in the division like Canelo/Cotto)

Cunningham TKO12 Huck in Germany (Cunningham wears down and stops a undefeated and highly popular Huck in his adopted home country)

Vitali TKO10 Adamek in Poland (Adamek suffers an embarrassingly lopsided beatdown infront of his home audience)

McCall TKO2 Lennox in London :)rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl)

Puritty TKO11 Wlad in the Ukraine (Wlad was so devestated by such a humiliating defeat infront of his home crowd, that he never fought there again )

Gonzalez SD12 Michalczewski in Germany (Gonzalez plays spoiler and outboxes Dariusz in a fight where Dariusz was supposed to tie Marciano's 49-0 record)

Thompson TKO2 Price in Liverpool (A 4000 year old Thompson ends the supposed heir to the Heavyweight division with a single neckshot)

Guillermo Jones KO11 Lebedev in Mother Russia (right smack dab in the middle of his senior citizen tour)

Rubio TKO7 Lemieux in Canada (The Pre-Lucien Bute gets exposed by a Mexican journeyman)

    Corley TKO10 McCloskey in Belfast

    Hill TKO1 Tiozzo in France

    Brewster TKO9 Krasniqi in Germany

Pirog TKO5 Jacobs in the States

Hopkins SCHOOLING Pascal up in Canada

Does it have to be one the hometown guy lost, or can it be one in which they were just very underwhelming and didn't accomplish the mission of giving their hometown fans a good show?

If the latter criteria applies, then Darchinyan vs. Mbamba is an example.

Could make a case for Miguel Cotto vs Austin Trout falling into this category, Cotto coming off a spirited effort against Mayweather, back at his adopted home of MSG and fighting a guy not many people but hardcore boxing fans knew anything about, but then gets soundly beaten.

    Some pretty good examples.

I would say BHop/Pascal was no real surprise, VK and Adamek as well. Jacobs/Pirog was in Vegas I think.

    Khan/ Prescott

    Maidana/Ortiz

    Urango/Bailey

    are a few more.

The 1st fight? The media, most fans (except for B-Hop diehards) and the majority of message board pundits were practically picking out B-Hop's coffin when he signed on to fight Pascal because of how bad he looked in his previous fight against Roy Jones.

Yeah, I guess your right. But I guess the draw kind of tempered that, in my own head.
