I forgot all about Corley taking on McCloskey with the big card last Saturday. I'm going to try and find watch it but it was reported that Corley was down in the cards until stopping the Irishman in the 10th. 37 years old and still knocking fools out. Impressive.
He wasn't doing bad in the fight before the stoppage at all either, Mcclosky was coming on in the second half but it always looked that if Corley stepped on the gas he could tag Mcclosky at will.
Decent fight with a strange ending. Corley still has speed, but his work rate wasen't great at some points in the fight. Could definatly test some good fighters. McCloskey has done a poor job ad******g to the pro's. Credit to him for not complaining about the stoppage at the end though, he could have easily.
Corley was winning up until the stoppage. McCloskey was doing nothing but getting picked apart. If he was winning rounds, it was simply on workrate, not quality punching. The stoppage sucked, but hey, so does McCloskey.
The stoppage was peculiar indeed. I think the ref realised he jumped in too early but then it was too late to do anything so he just waved it off.
Good stoppage IMO. McCloskey had been wobbled several times throughout the fight, had a broken nose, wasn't hitting Corley with anything big, got hit with almost every power punch Corley through and the third time McCloskey wobbled (10th round) he looked like he was one or two punchers away from being knocked out. Well done Chop Chop good luck recovering from this McCloskey.
