Didn't see the fight, been away and due to a **** up wasn't recorded.Gutted.Been slightly critical of him as an elite boxer though always wanted him to do well due to his nice guy image and background.Did see the ringside program on him.Nice guy, nice wife, nice family.British.Geale is a good boxer.Chuffed for the lad.
As an Aussie im gutted Geale lost, but in saying that im happy a fighter like Barker won it,seems like a top guy who has been through a lot in the last few yrs, with the mugging and brothers passing.Well done Darren you made a fan out of me.
that knockdown was just Hollywood Rocky Balboa stuff! i am proud 2 say im a Darren Barker fan! i know Andy Murray will win it anyway ...but Barker deserves sportsman of year award!
great to see a positive thread on here for a change darren is the man, deserved it , gave 100%, maximum respect!
He showed everything that night, looking at the behind the scenes interviews and training etc, it seems he finally managed a couple of training camps without injury etc so he was in great shape. Too many boxers claim to have the skills and determination to be world champion, but it's not until you have to go to the bottom of the well do you find out if you truly have it. How he got up after that shot I too still can't believe, and not only did he get up he ended the round giving geale a hiding. Skills - tick Guts - tick Stamina - tick I actually think he would give Macklin and Murray a lesson, too much movement, and skill. Macklins been in too many wars and the last knockout was brutal. I like murray but clocks ticking and Barker could keep him at bay and frustrate him all night picking him off.
I agree think Macklin may be past his sell by date, not so sure about Murray who I feel won his last two fights......but would love these lads to fight like em all and whatever the outcome title stays here!
Agree with this, apart from I think Barker would ALWAYS have outboxed Macklin, who I don't think would have beaten Geale. Also suspect Murray is the hardest, and also the best of them.
