I get the feeling it's more DeGale himself and not his trainer who is responsible for some of the bad things I see in his fighting. Such as his poor tactical choices at times and/or laziness during fights.

I'm not sure if James is just a bit dumb as a fighter or if he lacks physical and/or mental stamina/endurance or a combination these.

He would be a much more effective and successful fighter if he could/would maintain his focus and work rate throughout entire fights. That's the thing separating him from the Froch and Calzaghe levels. They had tremendous mental/physical stamina and will/desire. They wouldn't switch off and give their opponents rounds and opportunities to get back into fights. If anything they would increase the intensity.

How does a natural counter puncher increase his intensity???

He could just maintain the same intensity that he displays during the good spells in his fights instead of taking his foot off the gas/losing focus/tiring the way he often does. Often in his fights he will just stop doing what was working well for him and get lazy/complacent/lose focus, stay on the ropes throw less, etc and just let his opponent get back into the fight, gain confidence and win rounds.

Plus DeGale isn't always a counter puncher, he can also go forward and fight offensively and is often very effective when he does.

He could always start stepping in? Or how about making those famous angles he loves to boast about? You know the old ''People dont know how to deal with me when Im coming up the side of them.''

    His words not mine.

We shouldn't forget Dirrell managed to stagger Degale around round 5, with not much of a punch either, good thing he didn't catch Degale with a boots-set full bang like he caught Froch. Also James may have been worried about his eye. Could just be that his stamina is as bad as Groves'. Both of them take a lot of rounds off in distance fights. Dirrell is still a good fighter and this was a good win but I still don't see how Degale has improved much, he should stay away from Froch certainly.

Froch is staying away from him so that's not a problem for James.

Degale don't like coming forward, plus he's to flat footed and has no jab. I'm team chunky but if groves follows his own blueprint to the tee I don't see what answers chunky can provide
