20,000 fans showed up to a packed arena. The fight result made the front page headline of ESPN.com. Two of the top five welterweights in the world put on a tremendous show. One was victorious in completely dominant fashion. And...

The championship you created to "clarify" the confusion of belts in the minds eye of the general public wasn't granted, out of respect for a fighter who may never compete at welterweight again, and will be fighting at 160 in his next bout.

    Well done guys! :good

    Rules are rules.

Ring has broken their policy before and copped a heap of **** for it. It's understandable they are more stringent about it today.

ring magazine rules state that a fight between the top 2 or in some cases 1 and 3 will result in the awarding of the belt....margo was 1 and mosely was 3

i remeber when it first rolled out it was 3 way either collect all 3 of the major sanctioning bodies IBF,WBC,WBA(then WBO became big so they scraped that one)

    1 and 2 fight

in the case 1and 2 cant be done 1and 3 in some cases(like calzaghe vs lacy)

Eh **** the ring... But i cant blame them, I mean Paul Williams has as much as a right to be considered as any of the other top WW. Its not his fault he can't secure it good WW match, I'd love to see him with a Top 5 Welter.

They had every reason to not make it for their belt.

Most thought Margo would steam roll Mosley and Mosley lost to the number 2 in Cotto, to make Margo-Mosley for the title would of been wrong.

Mosley vs whoever they decide to rank as 3 (probably Clottey) will be for the Ring Championship

I agree The Ring is not what it used to be but imo they still have the most integrity when it comes to ratings and championship belts. I got my first subscription back in 1975 when I was 13 and I would read it cover to cover. Things sure have changed since then.
