I think Roy is better at 175...Joe should stay at 168, he'd beat anyone there. but 175...:think:think:think :-(

Yup...Calzaghe didn't do so great at 170 with Hopkins that extra 5 lbs and a higher calibur fighter might really mess with his skills...

but it seems everyone thinks itll be an easy pick for Calzaghe...

I don't know why people ignore this sort of thing all the time. Fighters moving up in weight nearly always lose something in the process -- speed, power, stamina...

Remember when Pav iced Taylor and then agreed to a rematch at a higher catchweight. His reasoning was that he'd simply be bigger and stronger -- less drained. The reality is he lost strength and mobility and had a hell of a time with Taylor. And it certainly didn't help him in there with Hop. Now, before some douche starts squawking about how weight had nothing to do with Pav's loss, I admit that he'd have his hands full at any weight. The move was a bad one, negating the natural advantages of youth -- mobility, strength and stamina.

So, I agree that weight is a huge concern for Calzaghe.

I don't think the weight will be a problem for Calzaghe because he had to lose 2 & a half stone (35lbs) to reach the SMW limit.

I also think that having had a fight already at 175 will help. Besides jones looks more like his 168 self in terms of body size right now. They'll be the same size come fight night whereas hopkins was about the same size as kessler. Bigger than joe

Highly doubt Calzaghe is walked around at 200+ between fights. Highly doubt this.

Either did I. He's not in the public eye like Hatton when he's not fighting, he's back in wales, so you dont see it. He was on a chat show in Uk a while after the Hop fight and he did look about 14, and thats what he said he walked around at and the older he got the harder it was to shift to make 168.

seems to me that he lost power and a tad bit of speed...but his workrate is still the same

Roy is motivated too so Calzaghe watch out! :hi:

It will not be a problem for Joe. Contrary to many peoples beliefs Joe is actually a naturally big guy. Yeah, somethink he looks like a nerd or a school kid, but he is bigger than he looks on photos. He has said that he walks around at around 195.

    Is that a lot?

Not a lot a lot, but actually more than most SMWs. Kessler for example says that he walks around at around 175-180 between fights.
