Nah wont be the same level of interest here in NZ in a Meehan fight as there was with Cameron. Maily because the general public baught the bull**** Reinsfield had been spreading about Cameron for years - that he was world class and would win the title blah blah blah - and also becasue the Cameron fight got effectively marketed to the masses for around 3 years - every time Cameron fought he called out Tuas' name afterwards, every story written about Cameron mentioned Tua. They just wont be able to generate the interest among the general public that they had with the Cameron fight IMO. Dont get me wrong, the fight makes sense, and is one I'd like to see, and would do reasonably well, but given Tua's MaoriTV deal, and I would expect a reletive lack of interest from Joe Blogs rugby fan here in NZ I couldn't see it being a $2m purse here in NZ - maybe Aussie, you guys would know better than me there, but not NZ.
Plenty know who Meehan is, and plenty know who Tua is. This fight would sell to a good sized live audience and PPV without doubt.
From what I heard here, this fight should sell out an arena that seats 10 to 15 thousand people, both in NZ and Australia, which means it should do financially as well as Tua vs Cameron or better. Do they have a place that big in NZ? Considering that, I think there is a good chance this fight happens. I just won't say that there is a much better chance than all the other options because Meehan is a DKP fighter.
I believe the reason Hoppa appeared on the undercard was to built interest for a future showdown with Tua, but that's off with the loss. Don't believe Tua's camp will be interested in fighting Wilson now. The idea was to match Hoppa with Rahman, that way both names would be good no matter who would have won. Apart from Meehan, I think Tua's camp will check out possibilities with names like Rahman, Ruiz, Toney, Holy, Maskaev, Arreola, Peter, Brewster, Minto, Botha, maybe even Briggs and Golota.
Look at the size of Tua in your avatar The man is a frigin tank. Those ****ing legs pretty much equal or are bigger than the biggest set of pins in the NRL
The main reason that Hoppa was on the undercard was to help sell PPV to the Aussies. Tua wouldnt even think about fighting Hoppa and Hoppa wouldnt take that fight anyway.Unless we are talking BIG bucks of course.....but stranger things have happened i spose:yep:hey:nut
I just read this whole thread and the last reply didn`t surprise me at all, Tua is highly regarded but very underated, there is no heavyweight out there with a record even close and no title. Tua could beat Klitscko if he learned from the Lewis fight which wasn`t a bad showing just the wrong tactics. Tua has never even been hurt, he needs at least a rahman level opponant at this point imo. I agree with Ippy express the general public doesn`t know Meehan, and those that do only remember his ko loss.
i think u will find they remember him being robbed against brewster more so. except for the anti's that is.
