Mikey is mismanaging his career though. He's had opportunities other fighters would kill for and chosen not to capitalise on them. Your original post covers one such example.

The long break, the never ending stream of call outs that are always looking unlikely to happen and then when one presents itself sacking it off - all things that I'm sure he'll regret when he hangs 'em up. Now, had he taken out Linares in style and then beaten Loma - who could keep him off that mythical p4p throne? No. One.

 

well if he beats lipinets he earns another belt. and he owns a belt at 135 . mikey will have options. thats what hes thinking. in the long run mikey might be making the better choice. but we will see.

i see mikey staying at 140. smart choice to make the guys from 135 move up to fight him. guys like linares and easter will prolly move up to fight him

It's always the deal wasn't right so he must be using the Andre ward plan lol his never fought an elite guy and the only fighter that comes close to elite is salido and that fight was getting interesting didn't like the way Garcia got out of that fight first chance he got

 

Mikey is my guy, but he should have fought Linares after the Dejan fight, now he threatens to avoid Linares if he fights Lomachenko while he is just taking the easiest fight for a title, even if it is in a heavier weight.
He could have fought Easter, a winnable fight that helps his case in potential fights with Loma or Linares.

Mikey's not mismanaging anything... He's cherrypicking and doing exactly what he wants/needs to do to stay undefeated.

 

Mikey Garcia already wasted all of his 20s either fighting gimme fights or not fighting at all. He lost his title on the scales against Lopez. Now instead of becoming a unified champion, or THE Champ at 135, he's picking up an easy title at 140.

He needs to step it up, otherwise he will lose the little fans he does have.
