Thats what happens when you fight the best fighters in your division, you should try it sometime

At least the English fighters won their titles in the ring, Wales and Scotland seem to only be able to be 'given' or 'upgraded' into theirs

Am sure Burns beat Martinez in the ring, can't remember him getting the belt handed to him!!

Ah...wait a minute you are right...Ricky got handed the belt by the WBO official after punching Martinez around the ring!! :good

His latest belt I'm referring to, there were English World Champs when he won his original title

Some argue Martinez won it from a guy who beat a guy who was upgraded from Interim. When it mattered Burns moved up instead of defending against worthwhile opposition.

Froch loses his title fighting the best available ala Khan and even Haye. Burns moves up instead of fighting Broner. Says it all.

Enjoy it while it lasts. This is the first time in recent memory that Scotland have had more titlists then England.

And let's see if Ricky holds on to that title if and when he fights the elite of the divison ...

Then you should have made it clearer in your original post cos you said he got handed his titles.

Yeah and Haye won his WBA title from a guy that wasn't the true WBA champion so we can pick holes in everyone same goes with Froch seeing as the vacant title was originally Calzaghe's.

When it mattered Burns stepped up against a genuine world title level fighter - this has been debated and done to death.

Haye unified his division at cruiser before he moved up and Froch tried to do same. Burns moved up at first sign of struggle.

I believe Burns did a good job against Martinez but should not of fought 3 poor opponents as defenses. Katsidis is a good win but not a statement of intent as JMM ko'd him and Guerrero beat him down every round and it wasn't even close. Burns beat a guy on the back of those 2 fights and a fight at LWW before coming back to LW.

Burns has to fight someone of the ilk of Rios, Guerrero, Vasuqez, JMM or even DeMarco before he can be spoken of as World class. The fact Burns is lined up to fight a guy who has fought 3 times in 2 years (one of those being a KO loss) says it all really in terms of future match ups. Ranking of Mitchell aside, it should be the top 5 mentioned who should be targeted.

yip when the weight becomes a problem then its safer that he moves up, I don't want to see another Mancini-Kim fight where one fighter is drained to **** and then something tragic happens.

Burns' dream was to win the Ring title, when he was WBO SFW Champion its all he would talk about when asked about his fights so I'd imagine that it wasn't an easy for him to accept.

If Broner goes on to do big things then fair enough but Burns stepped up in weight and in his first fight fought a world level opponent and beat convincingly.

And before we get the "ah but it wasn't the same Katsidis" remember the vast majority of this board were picking the same Katsidis to smash Burns.

Rios isn't that ****ing great either though, never been sold on the guy, although I will admit the Acosta result surprised me, but how good did Acosta look recently against Prescott victim Abrile?

Rios is very very very beatable, in my opinion

to put it bluntly right here and now, Ricky Burns is a better fighter than Brandon Rios
