Just spoke to Carl Thompson about interviewing him. I thought Alex Arthur was the nicest fighter I ever met but I reckon he's just been topped. This guy has no idea how high a regard he's held in amongst fans. I mentioned all your praise and he genuinely thought I was winding him up. He doesn't use the internet much. He told me how he used to get bad press for not bad-mouthing fighters. He wanted his fists to do the talking and he hopes he's at least entertained the fans. He was also saying when he fought Duran for the European title that he was hoping more than anything else that he didn't let anyone down. So I've got the interview on the 29th. Phone him that week to confirm. And I can do the interview at his house as long it's done before he picks up his kids.
Once I've got the interview done and in print or online I'll post the link. I might travel down to do this one. I normally do them over the phone but I might make this an exception.
Very true. I was just shocked how shocked he was when I told him how much was respected and loved by the fans. I think I caught him off guard.
Exactly. I mean where do you start with the interview? It'll be fun watching his fights again, that's for sure. That Rothman fight for me was something else.
With the big fight coming up maybe Haye would be a good place to start? Topical and a fight with happy memories (I presume) for Carl.
