Lopez too made me eat my words. Made me eat my thread I made 2 days prior to the fight that Loma was going to stop Lopez. Got it wrong. Was told by a fellow poster of this site that basically I get all picks wrong. Which is not true but hey is what it is, Lopez proved me wrong and can't get em all right.
I was surprised but seeing them in the ring together from the first round Lopez looked bigger and more powerful you could even hear the thud on his shots that were landing on Loma's gloves. Lopez won all the early rounds because he made Loma too hesitant to do anything. As the fight went on Loma was landing cleanly but just didn't have enough power to hurt the bigger Lopez. If there is a rematch I would back Loma to win he seemed to figure Lopez out at the back end of the fight it reminded me a little bit of Ward Kovalev 1 the second fight Ward the smarter boxer had him figured out.
I fancied he'd get a late stoppage after holding his own in a boxing match and making Loma strain to try to impose his style on a bigger man with some technical capability to significantly mitigate the Matrix maneuvering (Lopez showed that he has cannier feet than many were crediting him with). Lopez isn't ultimately a special fighter, though, in my estimation. Just another good to very good one. He beat Lomachenko because Lomachenko is about as high in weight as he can go while remaining effective, and because Lomachenko has limitations of his own that have been overlooked through the course of several years of fanfare and worthy but favorable matchups.
