Kenmore, I respect your attempts for your guys and your interest in Welliver. But, your assessment of skills is not on par IMO.

Those guys are decent fights and decent fighters. But, don't hate a man who has bigger fish to fry than your guys. Chauncy has options and may the best option win.

I don't hate Chauncy. I like and respect him. In fact, I've defended him in these forums against morons who don't understand him. Chauncy is a developing fighter: a promsing up-and-coming heavyweight. He's had to learn his craft as a sparring partner in the gyms, and by fighting often in small clubs. That's old school...the way fighters came up prior to the '70s and '80s. I like that. I like to see those kinds of guys surface at the top.

Maybe Chauncy has a future as a top fighter. It could happen.

But until then, he's got to prove himself against solid Tier 2 guys. Until then, he doesn't deserve to be rated above Iggy and Fres, both of whom are genuine top-20 talents that have been sidelined because of bad luck and boxing's dirty side.

Chauncy: nothing personal...but I don't think you're ready for Iggy or Fres. I think they'd both school you.

On the other hand, if Chauncy takes these fights and wins (putting his belts on the line), I will be the first to come out on this forum to praise him for passing his first genuine litmus test.

I respect that view too Kenmore, all except the part that Chauncy does not deserve to be rated ahead of your men.

13, count em, 13 regional title fights, not just 1 title or 1 organization per defense either. In 2 years. On 3 continents. Who else is out there hustling for the organizations like Chauncy? Name me 1 dude as active?

Chauncy volunteers for a WBO China tour with Mike Tyson and Don King and others. Next thing you know he has a Panda Hat on and things start rolling hot and heavy there. He patiently waited over 2 year for the full WBO APAC champ to face as he is the interim....still. Tua and Barrett refused and Barrett for this last fight. But Chauncy has had a bunch of defenses of it anyways in New Zealand. He has won 2 belts and defended 3 in China. He won a belt for the WBC in the USA and defends it there. He's at the NABF, WBC and WBO conventions signing all their fans autographs. He's petitioning the organizations to request matches against other ranked champions and contenders. He has earned everything he has man.

Guys complain about Chauncy but the do it form their couch. Why don't they go big fish it in a little pond 5 times outside of their 2 stadium sell outs like Chauncy? Chauncy sold 2 big stadiums out yet he still made the rounds to smaller events as well. He hustles man and people need to recognize that his ranking are legit as he is doing the most work to get the big matches. His team is one of the best at working well with the organizations.

The WBA ranking is intriguing though if you get 1 for Iggy. But that mess is bull anyays. Povetkin is tied up to Rahman next. May face Wlad after that. It's a crap shoot really on these titles as Wlad holds 3. I believe the best route is to stay firm with the WBC and WBO as a hedge. The WBC has a 1 belt champ and he may retire, plus Chauncy is already #6. And Arreola is #1 and that is a premeire USA TV match.

Like I said before, I like Chauncy's old school approach to getting experience and climbing the ratings. When he gets a win over a tough Tier 2 dude, I promise I will throw my support behind him.

I think he showed character and raw ability against Solis. Just needs a couple of tough fights to round himself, pick up a little more polish.

ibragimov hasnt beaten anyone to even mention his name...unless we are talking about the nearly 50 year old oliver mccall...and ibrag lost to a former cruiserweight thats almost 40 with no power....he is nothing special and is 37 years old...chauncy would beat him

Obviously you didnt watch the fight. It was a boring fight and I thought it was either a draw or Welliver just did enough.

Chauncey wore some real punches early in the fight. Lucky Mensah is not a knockout king or otherwise it was over. But Chauncey came back with some consecutive rounds and then it seemed pretty close.

Just a close boring, rather watch MMA, kind of a fight

The takes on the fight go both ways, but most say Welliver was taking the fight over after the 6th in convincing fashion. I'll reserve judgement until I see it. The man quit though, so that leads me to believe that he knew he had nothing for Welliver by that point. What kind of fighter gets mad and runs away? Go try to knock the guy out man. Running away and being a quitter does nobody any good. Mensah needed to take his beating and KO like a man.

Before Welliver even steps up to an Arreola he needs to step up to someone else before that...his best win is Calloway....thats not much for someone with 52 wins

he needs to step up to a Walker or Barret first and if that goes ok then he needs to fight two or three other guys on that level...then he might be ready for Arreola

if hes struggling with Mensah he doesn't need to rush into these things

Barrett refused 30 thousand bucks to fight him instead of Mensah. Chauncy is even his interim WBO Apac Champ.

The WBC World Cup HW tournament may happen. Chauncy vs Banks, Solis 2 or Arreola are very real possibilities. And Chauncy Welliver will show he belongs on top of any such tournament.

Barrett can get his arse kicked any time he is willing to get realistic.

Assuming the $30K offer is true, Barrett probably turned it down because he knows he can make bigger purses elsewhere. Monte is marketable now that he's beaten Tua.

Nothing against Chauncy, who I respect as a legitimate up-and-coming prospect, but IMO, Barrett would be too much for him at this point. That's assuming Monte arrives in top shape.

But if Chauncy managed to beat Barrett, that would certainly impress me.

The offer was true. I saw Monte publicly complaining about it and he gave the 30K figure.

I have nothing against a man who can get more. But he also called Chauncy some names. I'd like to see him destroyed by Welliver for that.

Can you make sure that the Mensah fight gets on youtube at the earliest possible moment? I'm talking about the whole fight...every round, and not just the highlights.

I really want to see how Chauncy looks now compared to 2008. I watched the Solis fight again. I'll credit Chauncy for moving his hands nicely. He doesn't feel the impulse to load up on his shots, which I like. He slaps a lot, but that's okay, as long as a fighter puts multiple slapping/slashing punches together in combination (look at the films of '80s lightheavy contender Murray Sutherland for example of how this is done well). He has good defensive manuevering as well.

I don't think Chauncy can punch, but that's not a problem as long as he understands this and compensates by putting his shots together, works the angles well, and and focuses on precision/accuracy (again, check out Sutherland's films). Potentially Chauncy could emulate Adamek in being a heavyweight who doesn't need a punch to win big fights. Time will tell.

I like to see a savvy technical boxer do his thing, punching light, accurately, and often. I'm interested in seeing how much progress Chauncy's made.

From the remarks other posters make here, it sounds like Chauncy didn't do so well in the first 6 rounds of the Mensah fight. I would like to see that, too, to get a better idea of his technical weaknesses (as they exist at this point in time).

An irony here is that Chauncy --- because of his style and lack of big time power -- could get the same snub from big promoters and big TV that Ibragimov and Oquendo got. That's part of the reason why those two ended up on the sidelines, compelled to take whatever fights they could (as opposed to getting a build-up, picking up regional belts, maintaining a perennial top-15 rating, etc).

I don't like the attitude of big TV, in that it snubs the light-hitting distance/tehcnical boxers. I think the public needs to learn to appreciate technical boxers who are heavyweights. But let's see what Chauncy shows in the film. Then I'll have more to say.

But McCall, Hoffman, and Singh are bigger names than anyone Chauncy has beaten as of yet. Hoffman was boxrec top-25 and WBA #14 at the time. McCall was boxrec top-25 or top-30 at the time as well. That's why Iggy has perenially been in the top-25, and was even rated in the WBA top-12 in 2010-11.

Regarding the Mormeck fight, the Internet is flooded with reports that Iggy really won. Keep in mind that Mormeck's promoter appointed the judges: figure it out. Earlier that year, those same French officials ripped Oquendo off beyond belief. There are many reports that those same officials robbed Maddalone, too. So, I wouldn't make much of the Mormeck fight.

Anyway, I don't mean this post as a knock on Chauncy, who actually interests me as a fighter. I'm just saying that Iggy is one of several who would be a great litmus test for Chauncy.

LOL...I think Barrett was just talking up the fight. He knows how to stir up the public's interest. I wouldn't take the name calling seriously. In the end, Monte and Chauncy are entertainers, just doing their jobs.
