Sadly this is actually a step up... that says something about the caliber of Wellivers previous opponents

 

This is a big step up for Welliver. Williams is still a tough guy, a rugged clubfighter. I believe Chauncy is taking a major step in the right direction. I congratulate him.

 

This is an excellent litmus test for Chauncy. Williams is being trained in Miami by John David Jackson, last I heard. I don't know if that's "The Tank's" permanent arrangement, but it's another sign that he's no bum.

This one goes 12 rounds, and my guess is that Chauncy outhustles Williams. It should be competitive, but I think Welliver will outwork him.

 

Williams is no stiff. He's a rugged test for anyone outside of the top 10 contenders.

Interestingly, Williams is physically and stylistically like Seth Mitchell (on a greatly reduced level). This may be Welliver's way of making a statement to the HBO honchos.

If Welliver dominates Mitchell over 12, that will be nice leap forward for him. A first big step toward legitimacy with big TV.

 

Welliver should dominate Williams. To bad the Mitchell fight didn't happen. I was looking forwards to that. Welliver is definitely willing, but big fights just don't seem to be happening for him.

 

Welliver gets on my nerves massively. The sooner he steps up, fights a fighter of more than club level and then gets destroyed the better. Padding his record, giving stupid interviews with unrealistic ambitions it aggravates me how much attention (not a huge deal but still far too much) he gets despite doing nothing of note in his career.

 

Good fight......decent enough anyways. How bout that WBO INternational title though....is that gonna be up for grabs in this one?

And Zumbano was WBO rated......could they not get that one done with this promoter?

 

finally the fight the worlds been waiting for...... will the dudes behind the bum fights dvd's be released from prison to film this one? If Chauncy wins this one he gets Rufus the stunt bum next.

Is this gonna be on HBO PPV or just regular HBO championship boxing?

 

Zumbano's world rating is fraudulent. He was decisively whipped by an obscure clubfighter in the northwest USA earlier this year. Beating Zumbano won't win Welliver much respect, I don't thnk.

Williiams, on the other hand, is a long-term "gatekeeper" who generally loses only to tough opposition. He's well known in the boxing industry. The perception is that Williams would have defeated Holyfield last year if not for the flukey "NC" outcome.

Beating Williams will put Welliver on firmer ground promotionally. I'm certain it will go 12, and I expect Welliver to win. The only question is how close will it be: will it be life-and-death, or more like a shut out? Either way, getting a "W" here will advance Welliver.

 

Inflated or not, Zumbano like Williams beats the club fighters and bums he fights,a nd only loses to Blevel guys and high Clvel guys.

Not saying Williams hasnt achieved more, he has, but the value would be about the same regardless, except with WIlliams you get the american angle.

And with Love, you get that ranking angle. And by beating another ranked WBo fighter, it could get him in a postition to fight a WBO eliminator vs a #1-4 or something for a mandate. Just saying.:think

 

Actually, Zumbano gets beat by guys who are well below "B" level or fringe contender grade. Check out his record on boxrec. In January, Zumbano was dominated by Shane Andreeson in an 8 rounder. Andreeson had an 11-3 reocrd going in. This is a major blow to Zumbano's credibility.

Zumbano's only "accomlishment" is that he finished on his feet against tough journeyman Gbenga Oloukan in 2008. That's not saying much. As for Zumbano's flashy stats, almost all of his wins have been over guys with no records, losing records, or minimal experience.

Zumbano has had minimal exposure to the American TV market, and he probably won't get any exposure in the future. On the other hand, Williams is well-known in this market, and is at least respected as a tough clubfighter who can test guys.

By beating Williams, Welliver can silence a lot of the criticism that he "only fights hobos."

Incidentally, Zumbano has a WBA rating, and not a WBO rating.
