Former World Champion Steve Robinson made a return to the boxing ring this week (Tuesday 26th May) in the Howard Winstone biopic feature RISEN, directed by the award winning Neil Jones. Robinson, who made seven successful defences of his world title, was portraying the hard hitting American Leroy Jeffery in the film. Filming took place at the Merthyr Tydfil Labour club where local fans turned out to watch the former champion battle it out alongside actor Stuart Brennan (playing Winstone). The brand HXR-MC1P HD Minicam, on from Robert France the product manager at Sony Europe for testing, was attached to the boxers to give the film a unique gritty “in the ring” cinematic experience. Sony are the latest huge company to back the film, with other companies Ringside, the World Boxing Council, Maniac Films and Doghouseboxing.com already involved in the production. Robinson joins a growing list of former Champions to appear in the flm including Alan Minter, Enzo Maccarenelli, Tony Docherty and Eddie Avoth with many more set to appear
There are enough boxing films this has gotten ridiculous. Every kind of boxing story imaginable has a movie to it, I think we need to give boxing films a rest.
