But was there anything in the contract to say they could not weigh 168lbs?

The point is if it's for thw WW title both opponents should be allowed to weigh anywhere in the WW range which is 140.1-147. Otherwise you're not the WW champion but only champion over all welterweights who happen to weigh below whatever catch weight limit u set.

What if what they want is to set an agreement between them on a certain weight?

i got no problem with catch weight fights, I just don't think they should be for recognized titles if less than the weight class. but i guess it ain't that big of deal as long as the guy defends the title at the full weight

My point is all the champs could "agree" to fight Pac at 145 to make the big fight and the big bucks but if he then refused to fight above 145lbs its as if he is changing the limit to 145lbs and not 147.

I know this is an old thread but ive been away a while!

Definitely you shouldn't ask Floyd since he is saying 145 then coming to fight at 147.

Weigh-in. You can enter the ring at any weight you like, as long as you "Weighed in" at the correct time, between 140.1 and 147 pounds.

Champion and contender can "Weigh in" anywhere between 140.1-147 pounds and if they "Make" the welterweight limit, they can enter the ring at any weight they choose! All this 145 shite is absolute bollocks and ANY champion at any weight who attempts to place their own weight restrictions upon a challenger is not a true champion imo!!

:good As you rightly say, catchweight fights have been around since the beginning of boxing.

No!! Those would be the weights his opponents agreed to fight him at. When Mayweather, Pacquiao and all the others retire the welterweight limit will still be 147!
