Every single fighter in the welterweights division has to plan their next move with such perfection because one incorrect decision/fight can lead to the end of their career and lots of money lost. Its amazing because it seems like each boxer could go down 2-4 paths which alters all of the other guys situations.

the most important piece to this puzzle who everyone is gunning for is floyd mayweather jr.

right now he sits on top of the ladder and if he decides to does not have to fight any body and could ride off into the sun set.

or he could fight miguel cotto late 08 early 09.

but if cotto loses to margarito, cintron, williams, clottey

his opprotunity to fight floyd is gone...

but if any of them can beat cotto none of them will advance to floyd. i believe a cotto loss = a floyd retirement

if margarito/cintron/clottey/williams fights margarito/cintron/clottey/williams there opprotunity in the welterweight division basically vanishes

which to me explains why cintron would call out margarito instead of williams.... cintron fights williams and loses and hes basically done as far as welterweight contention goes.... if he wins tho hes top 3 in welterweight.. high risk high reward.... we dont like that

he fights margarito and wins and hes top 3-4 in ww division and if he loses .. its to someone who beat him already so to me thats low risk high rewar...

i could make up scenarios for each fighter for a while but its very interesting to see how each fighter is making their decisions

in the world of "never gonna happen," they could have a tournament for nothing more than who's the best WW.

    R1:
    Cotto - Mayorga
    Margo - Mosely/Judah
    Cintron - Clottey
    Williams - DLH

    QF:
    Cotto - Margo
    Williams - Cintron

    SF:
    Cotto - Williams

    F:
    Cotto - Mayweather

    Champ:
    Mayweather

Yet, but if Mayweather rides off into the sunset, history might not remember him kindly. How high up in your atg rankings would he go, should he fight and beat 3-4 of those opponents?

Yet if he just retires now without fighting Cotto, Margo, Mosley, Williams etc....

If he fought and beat 3-4 of those, I would have him in the top 5. If he never fought any of them and left for good, top 30-35.

The trouble for guys not named Mayweather, De la Hoya or Cotto is that they still need to make a real name for themselves, and thus lack any kind of negotiating leverage.

If PBF beat Margo (who in turn beat Cintron & Clottey), Cotto (who in turn beat Mosely & Judah), & Williams (who beat Margo), I'd have him top 3.

If did that, I would make a strong case that he also beats SRL (using equivalent skill & speed to what Hearns was using before he was stopped) & Duran (using the equivalent skill, speed, & elusiveness that SRL used to beat him), but loses to Hearns.

Otherwise, I'd have him in the latter 1/2 of Top10 WW.

Jesus, that's high. But that's my point. He could achieve so much more should he stick around for another 2 years or so. Absolutely no one could dispute his achievements then.

So long as they were decisive wins:D

WW division basically is the deepest at the moment. i don't see any point in playing the waiting game. just fight someone who's willing to fight you(this pertains to the top10). It's not like lose and it's the end of the world kinda thing. Just keep on winning and you'll get your shot. it will basically come down to fight for the money or fight for recognition. These WWs should not have problems choosing opponents just fight who is available and wait for your shot at the champion

I watch the well-drawn welterweight circle quivering - the one time greatness hype will put some of them through in what I would call the perfect squaring of this circle.

lets just forget about what floyd doing for a second because regardless of what he does he is the best fighter of this generation past 10 years probably..

what im trying to say is its amazing how strategic everyone is planning their matches....
this is what it seems like to me

cintron ducks clottey & williams initially because if he fights them and loses he loses all credability & disappears off the map because of his 2 loss record and his recent poor performance against feliciano.... so he challenges margarito because if he loses... its a fight hes lost before so he doesnt look so bad in the process .. if he fights clottey and loses HE REALLY DISAPPEARS from that map because clottey is damn near unknown.

williams ducks nobody because he fears nobody (in my eyes) but if he loses this fight against quintana theres another piece to the welterweight puzzle. he wanted cintron and if he takes cintrons belt that in turn sets up a match wtih cotto to take steps closer to unifying the belts

margarito also has to be careful about his next move because in the event that he loses he will also disapear from the map after losing in terms of getting the floyd/cotto fight..the most intelligent fight for him probably would be cintron becuase he can go into that fight with confidence and hell earn his belt back and put himself in position to get at cotto

Cotto meanwhile has big decisions to make because he obviously cant sit there and wait for floyd so he has to keep active.. his options are basically for the money or for the love.. because he can push for a big fight that wont cement the legacy as much as the stronger welter weight... oscar , shane pt 2, instead of williams, clottey, cintron margarito

there are other situations for each boxer.. but on top of all this madness...

    lurking around is still....
zab judah who if he can get a win against any of these WW's gets put back into the mix
ricardo mayorga who if can make the weight and beat someone signifigant is back in the mix
oscar de la hoya who has the option to randomly make someone a multi-millionaire
shane mosley if he decides to want to stay around at welter weight
andre berto who in 1 -2 years will be in the mix

welterweight is like a volcanoe waiting to erupt

Damn damn i just can't wait to see what will hhappen...2008 will be better than 2007 with all the fights in the air.

-I say that Margarito beats Cintron.
    -Williams beats Quintana.
-Margarito and Williams fight and the winner fights and in my eye beats a
Mosley/Judah(They have to win because Mayweather wont fight
Judah/Mosley since he has beaten Judah and will fight Cotto at that point
    who beated both)
-Cotto meanwhile would have beaten Cottey and/or Oscar DLH.

Then will Mayweather fight Cotto or Margarito/Williams or both or make them fight each other? thats the question.

I didn't say upon whom greatness is called and can be put through for those unreal assumptions. Just found out that that picture came along with my post by mistake, you know?... I am not sayin that 5' 11'' tall Antonio Margarito is a threat to any undefeated welterweight by any means whatsoever, and lefties Paul Williams, Daniel Santos and "Six Head" Lewis definitely proved that there's no reason to fear this guy... Just that it would be a pity if he pulls out some upset and avoids a big boxing match from happening in 2008 - I keep my fingers crossed so that it doesn't happen and wish all members, moderators and fans felices fiestas de Navidad.
