    COLDWELL BOXING: MARK THOMPSON LOOKING TO COME BACK WITH A BANG!

    The stable at Coldwell Boxing continues to grow with the addition of Lancashire welterweight Mark Thompson

    Despite having a two-year break from the ring, his new promoter David Coldwell is confident about his latest signing’s future and does not want to waste any time.

    “He’ll be making his debut for Coldwell Boxing at ‘The Big Bang’ in Liverpool on April 14th in a six-rounder and then we’ll be looking to get him back out on a show in May which we’re just finalising.

    He’s done his apprenticeship and after he shakes off the cobwebs I wouldn’t hesitate in putting him in with either Colin Lynes or Junior Witter who are soon to be fighting for the British welterweight title.

    I’m very excited about working with Mark. He’s an explosive puncher as his pedigree shows. He’s a fantastic signing and we’re looking to push him into title contention.

    He’s got the desire and after talking to him he’s ready to take on the challenge and he’s excited about us pushing him into British and hopefully European title fights.”

    Thompson 23-1 (14) was last seen in action against Kevin McIntyre in a British eliminator in 2010 which he won with a unanimous points decision and by the end of 2012 he’s looking to be back at that sort of level.

    “I wanna have the British or Commonwealth title or even bypass them to European level by the end of the year. Coldwell Promotions have got everything going for them and Dave Coldwell is on the up. You see what he’s doing for the likes of David Barnes and I want a part of that,” Thompson said.

    Mark Thompson’s comeback is part of a stacked card headlined by the British light heavy weight title clash between Tony Bellew and Danny McIntosh on April 14th.

    The bill also sees local lad John Watson continue his comeback against Jason Cook. And in an intriguing, evenly matched contest unbeaten light heavyweight Matty Clarkson locks horns with former Commonwealth title challenger Jeff Evans. As well as this the emerging talent of Nathan Brough, Scotty Cardle, Hosea Burton and Andy Colquhoun will look to continue their development in the professional ranks.

    David Coldwell in association with Eddie Hearn present ‘The Big Bang’ which is live and exclusive on Sky Sports HD on Saturday, 14th April.

    Tickets are priced at £30, £40, £60, £80, VIP tickets £150 and all available from;
