Welterweight Tourney?

    Shouldn't the hottest Division is Boxing deserve one undisputed Champion? What could be some of the matchups or scenario's to build up to one undisputed Welterweight Champion?

    I will make a tournament between:

    SSM, Zab, Williams, Quintana, Collazo, Cintron, Margarito, Cotto, Berto & Floyd if he unretires... May the best man win...

    Just as long as Williams and Margarito fight, we don't need no stinking tourney! But it sure would be nice anyway!

    Well, a box off between the current beltholders would do it. I'd say Clottey-Williams and Margarito-Berto. It would probably wind up being a Williams-Margarito rematch.

    I think the best way to do it is to work it like the 2001 Middleweight Unification Tournament put together by promoter Don King. It went down like this:

    Semifinal #1

    Bernard Hopkins (IBF Middleweight Champion) vs. Keith Holmes (WBC Middleweight Champion)

    Result: Bernard Hopkins WBC/IBF Middleweight Champion by UD

    Semifinal #2

    Felix Trinidad vs. William Joppy (WBA Middleweight Champion)

    Result: Felix Trinidad WBA Middleweight Champion by TKO5

    Final:

    Felix Trinidad (WBA Middleweight Champion) vs. Bernard Hopkins (WBC/IBF Middleweight Champion)

    Result: Bernard Hopkins WBA/WBC/IBF Undisputed Middleweight Champion by TKO12


    In the welterweight tourney, Bob Arum should put it together since two of the belt holders are under his promoting company. Margarito should not face Williams until the final and vice versa as I would favor both of them in their respective matches.

    & maybe De La Hoya could enter. And use his promotional company also. If He were to enter & come out on top, Would that satisfy his critics?

    That would require him beating one of Marg/Williams/Clottey/Cotto.

    Which at this stage he can't.

    If he tried, that would get him alot more respect than fighting the much smaller Pacquaio.

    no matter if someone unifies the belt or not everyone that watches boxing knows who the best welterweight in the world is, even if he is "retired"

    Nah, Williams-MArg 2, that was a really close fight. Clottey was out hustled by Marg already. Berto vs Clottey would be interesting. Clottey can fight and Berto while still young has some very good tools
