Wenfeng Ge vs. Giemel Abuan Magramo & Jing Xiang vs. Suriyan Satorn RBR

Can't imagine the outcome is really in doubt at this point...(assuming no major surprises in the championship rounds)

 

Round 11

Xiang is landing the jab, planting his rear foot, pushing slightly off to connect an uppercut on the bottom of the jaw, and then receding again with the parting gift of a quick left hook - all fluidly executed in one rocking-on-the-waves motion before Satorn can even get off a single overhand. Xiang is dancing around Satorn, feeding him jabs, spinning his way off the ropes, sometimes accompanied by a brief (and immediately released) clinch to prevent Satorn from landing any stray haymakers. Satorn looks very badly gassed but is still the one pressing the action. Xiang throws him in a headlock after hooking over the back of his neck as he ducks in, and the ref forces him to let go. Satorn chases with big wide looping shots and Xiang spins into the ropes. Another clinch. Getting sloppy now, both of them.

Round 12

Xiang is closing out strong, leading off with jabs in the face, then scurrying to one side, darting in and throwing shoeshines at the body. Step-back counter right by Xiang as Satorn is lacrosse-sticking a high right. Xiang is making Satorn miss at an alarmingly high rate (eight or nine whiffs in a row in one sequence) and casually looping rights into the neck and jowl from outside. Xiang showboating a bit, putting his rear hand up overhead and putting a little "English" on it, a little spin at the wrist. Satorn is still plodding in and manning the oars in the final minute, but moving as though underwater, sluggish. Xiang pops him with a flurry on the face and Satorn goes to all fours briefly. Xiang keeps peppering him when he gets up.

I know Satorn is past it (and Sabillo, while younger, has also been ridden hard and put away wet, so to speak), but this dominant performance helps confirm that Xiang is a very talented boxer, for me.

Had the look of a master class at times.

I hope Jang gets picked up by Top Rank (as they seem to have shown a keener interest than other Western promoters in cultivating talent from China) - he deserves the break more than a lot of his countrymen they've bothered investing time and money into...
