I got braces back in october, which counted me out of sparring, so i've starting coaching and training at the same time. However, it just started getting boring and rubbish for me, so i begged to be able to spar, so they let me as long i accept any damage to my mouth is my fault. So i got to spar this inexperienced lad, loved being in there, wasnt allowed to knock him about, just pitter patter punches but it was great being back in there just moving and throwing my punches. Tried a new combination, modeled off the Pacman, (Im orthodox) and its a one two, left screw shot through the middle with a right hand then move across and unload more. Worked a treat even pitter patting him, and the screw shot is a great addition to it.
You can get mouthguards made specifically for braces. And I know how much of a ***** it is to get the braces re-attached to your teeth, and it's not something I'd want to go through every month, let alone the fact that every time some of them come off it extends the overall time you have to have them in your mouth.
Don't be a dumb mother****er, how long are you going to have braces for? how permanently will you **** up your teeth if you spar with them on? how long do you want to spar for from now on? have some ****ing patience.
Generally, you'll have braces on from about 18 months to 2 years, depending how ****ed up your teeth are. If you spar with them on the major problems would be ****ing up your lips and the inside of your cheeks, the braces will slice straight through the inside of your cheek, I had it happen to me when I got sucker punched at a party once. Not ****ing pleasant, and you're almost guaranteed an infection. The other problem is the braces themselves detaching from your teeth. This will extend the amount of time you need to have them on, and you also need to have them re-attached asap, which is a ****ing horrid process. I don't know how effective the mouthguards for braces are, I wasn't training when I had my braces on, but it'd be worth talking to your orthodontist about, and you might just have to go with light contact or body sparring until they come off.
Another 3 or 4 months yet, just ****ing ring rust cant be doing with it. Need to be in there or else im just losing intrest.
**** ring rust mate. Just have some ****ing patience. Don't make me kick your ass, here, on the internets.
I have braces and my dentist said it's okay if I sparred, but that I need to bring him the mouthguard so he approve them, so far it's been okay..
Hmm, I've fought/sparred two guys with baces. The guy I fought lost a tooth in the fight and had to wait quite a while to get that fixed. The guy I sparred decided he would just wait until his braces were out to spar/start fighting.
I boxed with braces for two years. Had about 10 fights or so with them. The only downfalls was my mouth was split open after every fight, with my lip getting split in half in one fight, and the gumsheild tends to fall out a lot.
You can buy a specific mouthguard for braces. I really wouldn't run the risk of sparring with a normal mouthguard with your braces - not worth it.
I understand the logistics and how many do box with braces, however my orthodontist said he's 100% against it even with special moulded gumshield. He's not a nice guy ! Im not doing much sparring, just with rookies in the gym, teaching them the ropes and such.
