It is not a step back at all. Overeem is now considered one of the premier heavyweights and he is the SF champ...

...plus everyone is a step backwards from Fedor.

Is it ? How so ?

He already defeated the guy. (submitted him)... Are you saying this because he's physically bigger than before ?

That's a case reminiscent of Gonzaga's ... Before his rematch against Gonzaga , people used to say that he'd kill werdum..and that his first defeat was a long time ago..and that he wasn't as "big" back in 2003...

Then , Werdum still tkoed the bigger gonzaga 5 years later...in 2008 in the ufc.

in 2010 ..Overeem's ground game isn't better than werdum's....On the other hand his striking has always been better than werdum's anyway.. The only difference is his size..he's clearly bigger and the setting..a cage instead of a ring.

It's ignorant to say Overroid is a step back he's the champ and Fedor should have to beat Silva to earn another shot.

It's ignorant to say Overeem is the champ as if that meant anything. Everyone knows Fedor was the real champ. Overeem just had a belt.

I didn't agree with Werdum's thinking at first but it is smart. If he loses to Overeem he would fall from grace and the victory over Fedor will lose it's substance as they go in different directions. Winning an immediate rematch would skyrocket his ranking and push Fedor further down in the hole.

You certainly can't scoff at him challenging Fedor yet again and risking his #1 contender spot to offer him an immediate rematch; few would do that.

"I like Feather! Feather is the best!" - that **** was adorable. :yep

However! If he beats Fedor a second time, and doesn't wind up getting in the cage with Ubereem by this time in 2011, pulling that "he isn't really even the champion" BS - it's officially a duck. :deal

Don't know how SF does their pay, but isn't werdum's thinking more geared to the bigger payday? the buildup to FW-Fedor II will be immense imo gotta easily beat fw-ao II and if fedor loses again or retires, then that money's largely gone
