Werdum is going to rip Overeem's other arm off

The big problem I see him having is that even back in 2006 it was Overeem who dominated the wrestling taking Werdum down more than once. Subbing a guy as powerful as Allistair is not going to be easy either, espeically with something like a Kimura.

The main thing I'd say Werdum has in his favour is that he's a tough *******, if he gets cracked with a massive shot he'll be KOed obviously as we saw vs JDS but anything less than that and he seems to have the same recovery and coolness than Nog did at his best.

 

Yeah, I think Werdum's head has gotten a bit huge.

 

Not seeing it myself. Fundamentally Werdum hasnt changed much. Still a great sub wizard but thats pretty much it. Unless he's planning to butt scoot his way to victory he's going to get smashed up.

 

If Reem keeps it standing then he could brutalise Werdum. On the ground, Reem could play it smart but Werdum is a wizard.

 

It wont go to the ground unless Reem can stay out of Werdum's guard. Watch their first fight. Overeem had no interest in taking it to the mat even though he still lost via sub.

 

I like Werdum but IMO this verison of Overeem is going to be a total nightmare and beat him (in Ken Shamrock's words) into a living death. Overeem is sooo big and sooo damn strong I dont even expect this fight to hit the floor unless its Overeem smashing in Werdum's face. On the feet this will be a massacre. Cant count out Werdum though I remember in June arguing with boxingcar that no way he was going to tap Fedor and I know all about Werdum's credentials but still said no ****ing way. Boy was I wrong.

 

I remeber the first fight very well and your wrong, Werdum dragged Overeem down some of the time but Allistair took him down aswell.

I don't see the same happening this time round though, Overeems takedowns back then were a response to the threat of being taken down himself and I think he'll be more confident in his defence today plus of course he looks to have a greater advanatge standing than he did back then.

As I said I think the factor people have often missed with Werdum is how tough he is. After the JDS KO there was this ridiculous idea that he was easy to put away, in reality though he's taken a ton of punishment down the years and has always been able to recover without breaking mentally. He is easier to hit than Nog was at his best but that kind of toughness can overcome bad style matchups all too often.

 

:roll: Overeems strategy in their first fight was plain as light is day. He beckoned Werdum to stand up numerous times when it went to the ground. Wether Overeem took him to the mat is immaterial. My point was clear enough to understand.

 

You said Overeem had no interest in taking it to the mat when in reality he did several times, including a prolonged spell which resulted in him being subbed.

As I said though I don't think thats really very relevant to whats likely to happen this time round, more confident in his takedown defence, fewer cardio problems and his standup generally is less focused on beating people up in the clinch.

I think we'll see Allistair stay on the outside picking away with low kicks waiting for an opening to land a big punch/knee.

 

Werdum is gettin a bit overconfident if u ask me. He has a solid chance of submitting Overeem if it goes to the ground, but I doubt Alistair will fall prey to Werdum's sub skills this time.

Overeem is gonna brutalize him.

 

Overeem doesn't have to fight on the ground with Werdum, and he wont. What is Werdum going to try and do to get him there? Jump on him and try to pull guard? Reem will chuck him off like he's throwing a sock into a hamper.

 

Overeem is hardly a slouch on the ground. He will be able to get up.

But.

It's a tantilising fight. Soooo happy this is starting in a couple of weeks.

 

I agree with moreorless. Werdum is actually quite strong mentally. He has overcome shakey moments/tough fights with Reem, Fedor, Big Silva etc
