Werdum On The UFC: “They Kind Of Used Me And Threw Me Out”

I still don't understand the contract dispute other than Werdum had 2 quality wins and JUST BEFORE THE LOSS TO JDS the commentators were saying that he is next in line for the Brock & Randy VS Mir & Nog winner. Then he loses but JDS doesn't get put in line despite winning that fight and then winning a few more.

I'm a big fan of the UFC but Werdum exposes how they can pick and choose their rankings and how they can **** someone over contractually.

 

The aim of capitalism is to make as much money as you can get away with. it underpins the whole of western society. If you can get away with chopping down the rainforest and selling it, it's done. It's obvious that the fighters in MMA are being totally exploited. Fighters union anyone?

At the moment the rules of MMA favour young cardio grunts who will fight for peanuts, and supply seriously outstrips demand. Any fighter can be replaced in a second.

 

The UFC are against a fighters union and dont observe the Muhammed Ali act.

 

when you're not dana's personal friend...you don't get as many chances..

That's a pretty impressive short cut...

Compare this to Machida's run for the title fight...

Without losing...he had to beat 7 fighters to get to the belt...

The guy comes out of retirement , and instantly gets a title fight against Tim Sylvia...How can this be justified ? and it's not like he had a huge winning streak before his retirement..as a matter of fact...Liddell defeated him , then he retired...then he decided to make a come back.

Herring wasn't washed up, he had just beaten Kongo who had just beaten Cro Cop.

 

Whoever Kongo had beaten is irrelavent. Fact is Herring is a shadow of the fighter he was a decade ago. That much is not in dispute.

 

None of that makes sense. Herring had beaten Kongo who is himself a worthy opponent given that he had just beaten Cro Cop. I'm not saying Herring was prime but it was a good win.

 

The fact Herring beat Kongo just further proves the weakness of the UFC heavy division pre the PRIDE merger. Herring is shot point blank point simple. Good win for Lesnar as he was a name opponent. Thats where it ends. If you want to compare then compare Fedor's peformance and the brutal beatdown he gave a prime Herring.

 

Herring has been the same fighter for a decade never changed, A prime Herring wasn't a world beater so don't lie to yourself.

 

Yeah your right. Wins over Mark Kerr, Inoue, Erikson, Vovchancyn definitly not a world beater.

 

I don't think the merger or strength of the divison has anything to do with it.

Herring had beaten Kongo who at that stage of his career had just beaten Cro Cop (a Pride veteran) and that was considered an upset. Herring had also gone the distance with Nog (another Pride veteran). Herring always was a 60-40 type fighter - win some, you lose some. Brock was in his 3rd fight, coming off of a loss and he won all 3 rounds. Fedor had 13 fights by the time he faced Heath.

 

Yeah sure, and Tyson is just as good today as he was in 1988.:good

 

First of all, Liddell and Couture are horrible arguments. You're talking about multiple time champions, guys whose resume's are unquestionable. Werdum got screwed, but it's not like he was in the same boat as Couture and Liddell.

The rest of your examples prove several points.

1. Dana likes to keep guys around who the fans are excited by...
2. ...especially if they are TUF guys, who Dana shows a lot more patience with because they are UFC made guys. He does show preferential treatment toward "his" guys. Werdum never was one of them and he suffered for it.
