As a life long fan i wonder if anyone else has noticed in photos the smallness of billy conns gloves in his first Louis fight and the aparent slackness to the back of alis gloves in his final frazier fight?
im sure the story of billy colins is not unique, that glove filling can be removed and restitched. its an awful thing to suggest, i know but alis gloves look different to fraziers. it was verry hot in manila and i know everlast gloves had different fillling in them in years gone by and not foam or rubber filled as now. gloves do need breaking in but generaly new gloves are used in big fights. alis gloves apper to have a ripple across the back of the hand down to the wrist in photos. perhaps his gloves were simply and legally broke in by being exsesivly folded back and forth when empty? I would be intrested to know what anyone thinks?
also, billy conn. it was a great fight he had with louis but his gloves look tiny compared to louis's, a guy who couldnt hurt tony zale had louis all obver the place. he was giving away weight was it in the contract he have smaller gloves? i know 6oz were regulation then but his look like 4oz. what do you think?

I never noticed Conn's gloves looking smaller than Louis's, and upon closer inspection, still don't.
In Manilla, both Ali and Fraziers gloves look strange, that I always noticed. It was brutally hot that night, the fighters perspiring profusely, I thought it was because the gloves were waterlogged.

it is a disgrace to boxing and the great frazier to even intimate that he cheated as resto did in manila.

I get it, Ali used padding gloves, therefore he isn't that great, therefore Liston is not great because he lost to Ali.

If Ali isn't great, neither is Frazier, Foreman nor Holmes. If Holmes isn't great neither is Tyson. Therefore neither is Holyfield or Lewis.

Leaving the top two ATG as Louis and Rocky. Rocky beat Louis therefore he's number 1.

This is some warped kind of spiralling isn’t it? That’s like starting with Charlie Chaplin and coming up with Donald Trump.

And from a ten year old thread too.

I don't know about the specific cases in these two bouts, but until relatively recently fighters gloved up in the ring. I assume the local commission was in possession of the gloves until they were needed. If that's the case, there wouldn't be any opportunity for Conn's or Ali's camps to tamper with the gloves. With Ali's hand troubles, it doesn't seem like having less padding in the gloves would be a good idea.

Yes I think it is unlikely, Perhaps Ali’s gloves looked a little mis shaped. Conn’s gloves look small. But the gloves were smaller then anyway.

Both Ali’s and Frazier’s gloves were waterlogged with sweat over the course of the fight. Old Everlast horsehair gloves IIRC.

Look at the gloves early in the fight and then later. They were in what was recorded as 107-degree heat with unreal humidity ... basically akin to fighting in a steam bath almost.

EDIT: That was apparently the outside temperature. There were 28K people packed into a poorly-ventilated building with no air conditioning. Those present seem to think it was above 110 degrees. Some estimated it was closer to 120:
