Were does Virgil Hill rank amongst the Light Heavy Weights

I don't understand why he is so underrated and other guys like JMM is so overrated. People make great whomever they want to. I think Virgil is top 5 ATG 175 pounders.

Top5 is too high, but there are many LHWs who didn't do as much at the weight or have similar types of losses that are overlooked

21 title defenses. Fought very good fighters. He would have beaten Dick Tiger but lost to Spinks. He would have beaten Qawi. Like I said very underrated and it is because of his style. But he proved it by title defenses.

well show me another 21 defenses at 175. Comedy would be if I said that and he had 5 title defenses. 21. Beat Czyz,Tate (2 times) Maske, Leslie Stewart, Tiozzo, Delvalle, beat Lalonde and Mormeck at cruiserweight and fought Hearns and Jones and Michalzewski. I think the comedy is how overrated JMM is and people still cannot say why he is great. If JMM had 21 title defenses people would be saying he is the greatest fighter since SRR.

 

you don't think Hill would beat Qawi? Give me a break. Virgil was better than you guys think. Guess personality means more to you guys than actual title fight wins. Virgil is no Hagler or Hearns, but he proved he is great.

 

and Tiozzo was undefeated when Virgil beat him. Somehow overrating happens like happens with Marquez and even Duran. Now Duran is an ATG no doubt, but not 1-5 like some said. Duran's lightweight reign is not exactly so much greater than Virgil at 175. So what is the criteria here? A guy like Virgil who has the wins has a boring style because he uses his left hand and moves the whole fight. What can you do? For that matter Thomas Hearns beat both Virgil Hill and Roberto Duran. The only man to do that.

 

It's not about defenses, especially when for the majority of the time he was merely a belt holder. It's about quality of opposition and who he beat at the weight and how dominant he was. Hill was very good, but his opposition isn't that good and he wasn't that dominant, ie losses to Jones/DM/Jones Jr. He can't rate over Charles, Moore, Jones Jr, Tunney, Greb, Spinks, Foster and I doubt you'd really rate him over any of those. The division is just incredibly deep and plenty of other LHWs could rank over him. I could see him rating over some others like Conn perhaps as he didn't achieve that much at the weight

Not sure what JMM has to do with this but despite being avoided like the plague kicked Pacquaio's ass twice, beat MAB and a slew of underrated contenders, he has been involved in 13 title fights (arguably won 12 of them), 14 if you count Mayweather
