Ali was a huge underdog v Foreman and Liston. I don`t know if he was an underdog v Berbick. Floyd was an underdog v DLH, that`s the fight that made him a superstar.

Ali was a slight underdog in the first fight against Frazier as well. So in his three biggest fights.

Harder to say with Hagler... Perhaps against Monroe?

Ali was definitely an underdog against Liston and Foreman
He was a slight underdog against Frazier and I think Berbick. He was split even/favourite against Holmes which really surprised me.

That can't be right. You must have read it wrong. Holmes was more or less in his prime and universally recognised as the best heavyweight in the world. Ali was 38 and out of the ring for 2 years and clearly waaay past his best. Even with the usual Ali diehards putting money blindly on Ali like there was no tomorrow, there's no way that the betting odds wouldn't have Holmes as a clear betting favourite.

The love for Ali was strong, I knew he was going to win, but had the excuse of being six, but my boxing nut Dad was 32 and still figured Ali had 'one more miracle' in him. And to think otherwise at the time, put you in a minority.

Ali convinced some he would beat Holmes because he LOOKED slim and trim. As fight time approached the odds edged closer.

A lot of people had Hearns as the favorite over Hagler. Some had Mugabi as the favorite, which seemed a lot less ridiculous at the time. I suspect he was the underdog in a lot of people's eyes against Briscoe.

A lot of people seemed to think Gatti would beat Mayweather

The almost blind faith in Ali took Holmes from about 3-1 fave to 7-5 fave by fight time. Ali was the underdog.

Liston was around an 8-1 fave over Clay. I think Liston started as a narrow fave in the rematch even after the odds shortened too.

Ali - Foreman ended up about 4-1 i think and there was plenty of Ali sentiment in that.

I believe the odds on Hagler - Hearns went from Hagler narrowly to evens not long before the fight.

Minter was a narrow fave over Hagler as Unforgiven said.

I'd like to find the odds for the first two Monroe fights and Briscoe.

I distinctly recall reading an article just before Hagler v minter, saying he was surprised that minter was a slight favorite going in over Hagler.

Probably because Hagler had just drawn with Vito A and Minter had just won the title from Vito, also I don`t think Hagler was known in Britain at that point, Harry Carpenter was saying Minter was in with a dangerous opponent, Minter had a huge following in Britain at that point and Hagler wasn`t a superstar as of yet.
