I dont know, styles make fights. Joe beat hopkins cause the old man couldnt handle being punched at that much. Hopkins beat Pavlik cause he found it easy to move around Kelly's big straights.

Kelly vs Joe would be a different story. Its hard to know what would have happened.

Sorry guys -- I ain't buyin' the theory that it's all Arum's fault. Since 2007 Arum has ask Sauerland to do one thing; build Arthur's presence in the USA.

Spring 2008: At that point Zuniga had given Pavlik his toughest test other than Taylor. Zuniga vacated his IBO SMW title for a shot at AA, and became the rightful mandatory. The IBF allowed Sauerland to stab Zuniga in the back and make a voluntary defense against Elvin Ayala.

Summer 2008: Abraham appeared on Showtime and knocked out a guy Pavlik had already beat 7 shades of **** out of, and then called out Oscar BEFORE he mentioned KP.

Fall 2008: Sauerland promised to put Abraham/Marquez on a cheap PPV in the U.S. market. Arthur screwed that up when he couldn't make weight, claimed he had the flu, and took to his sick bed for a photo op.

Early 2009: Winky Wright, a guy Pavlik spent years trying to get a fight with, wanted a fight with Arthur. Sauerland low balled Winky with an offer of substantially less than Wright already turned down for a fight with KP. Given a chance to fight a future hall of fame member, they blew it off, and fought #43 ranked LuJaun Simon.

Sauerland has not only failed to build AA up in the U.S. market, he has also proven through his choices that he is far more interested in making noise than he is in making a fight.

Winky Wright declining an OFFER? NO WAI!

So Sauerland is big of a douchebag as Bob Arum. Great so we have two douchebags to rag on.

I don't see it as that hard to predict - Calzaghe would win. Pavlik doesn't beat Kessler imo but I would love to see that match.

That would have to be Bob "Yeah I bribed some people. What about it?" Arum.

This fight is never going to happen at this point so I think we should all find a new MW to want to see Pavlik fight.

Got distracted with JC v KP before - getting back to thread I don't see KP ducking AA. They (Arum) just don't think he needs the fight. I think KP wins at 160lbs but AA might wear 168 better.

I don't know about that. Sauerland is more charismatic then the old curmudgeon, but he also issues press releases and claims them as legit fight offers.

Joe called him out numerous times, said it was "THE FIGHT" and then turned down $10 million and fought a guy he had repeatedly called "shot". (even said he wouldn't fight a shot Jones in his autobiography) Fired his promoter as he negotiated the fight. What else would you call it?

No more ridiculous than Joe setting up a fight with a corpse so he could co-promote the event in order to make a shameless cash grab before he retired.

That's nothing special for a promoter to do. We're not talking about that being anything superbly illegal like BRIBING.
